I am disheartened

I need to vent or cry or both. Since Feb. of the year, I have had the worst lower back pain, to the point of falling down due to the pain. I went to a chiropractor for 5 months thinking I could get some relief. I didn't. He finally gave up on me and told me to go see a medical doctor. So after the initial exam and a CT scan, I found out that the back pain was caused by a pineapple sized fibroid.
I welcomed the surgery to finally get this beast out of me. I now am 3 weeks post op and for the first 2 weeks, I had no back pain. But now, for the last 3 days, it's starting all over again! I don't know if I still have the problem and the pain was covered up by the pain meds. My doctor reassured me that the surgery would correct the back pain.
So not only do I have the pain and discomfort connected to this surgery, I still have the back pain and spasms to add to it. This is not doing my body any good to help with my recovery, believe me.
I did speak to my doctor and she figures it's caused by the swelling and told me to keep taking the pain meds til I see her next week.
I had this surgery MAINLY to get rid of the back pain. It is awful to think that I will still have to live with that and have to live with this too.
Thanks for listening ladies!

How frustrating! Hopefully your dr. is right, and it's just caused by the swelling. Too bad we can't get the swelling to go down (and stay down!) faster!!!
Get as much rest as you can, so the swelling will go down. And if it's not better, maybe check back with the dr.

Praying for you!

Take heart, Alana! Keep working with your doc and don't stop till you're out of pain!

I can't say I've had the long term back problem you have, but I had a cantaloupe-sized fibroid (along with some smaller sized fruits) removed in a TAH last thursday, 10/7/04. I've had significantly more back pain I think because of all the trauma to the middle and having to stay in bed so much. I miss exercise and stretching especially.

I hope you and your doc get this worked out soon, and I send you sympathy and hugs! Take care!

Hi, Dee,
I don't have any great answers, but wanted you to know that I am praying for answers for you from the doctors, and most of all that the pain will soon go away. If you read a lot of the post op messages, you will see that many of us suffer from back pain after the surgery. It could be from a combination of things, and our new exercise patterns, or lack of usual activity sometimes just seem to make the problem worse short term. My back is feeling better since I am walking more, but I am having more problems with a condition that affects my sciatic nerve since I am walking more. I have a great chiropractor and can't wait to see her after I'm released for regular activities by my surgeon. Take good care of yourself. Carol

Yes, back pain does increase with surgery. But, take heart! The back pain should subside in a few weeks. I am at 9 weeks and my back pain (triggered from surgery) is calming down.

I'm sure that if you give it some more time, it should diminish.

Take care!

Hey,
don't give up. I have back pain also since the surgury. I think it is from the trauma of the surgury, lying in bed so much, swelly belly, and in my case from consipation caused by the pain meds. Life just is painful right now but I am believeing that it will get better. Just give it more time.

Thank you ladies for your support. I have really tried to handle this without the use of pain meds, but I think that is a necessity. It's bad enough not being able to sleep with the night sweats, but now I can't even fall asleep with those back spasms. I can't sleep, I can't stand and I can't sit for any length of time. I either have pain from my front or back. I fall down sometimes it hurts so bad. Great. I am having a hard time dealing with this. I wanted this to be over and it's not. Back to the drugs, I guess.
