Can HRT dose need adjustment later on?

I had a TAH/BSO in April and started on Vivelle dot .05 which was increased to .075 a few weeks later. I still had some symptoms on that dose but felt better after changing patch placement to my rear. It's been almost 6 months and suddenly I'm starting to have some hot flashes, insomnia and mood swings again-no night sweats or headaches as earlier; but definitely not feeling as well as before. I have also been having trouble keeping weight stable. Does this sound like I need more estrogen or is this a common occurance and will pass? Not sure if I should call the dr. or wait and see- this has been over the past 2 weeks. Thanks for any input-anne

Can HRT dose need adjustment later on?

Hi. Many of us have had to up our dosages, and sometimes end up going back down again. I am 8 years out and have increased my dosages substantially. I'm using two .1mg Vivelle-dot patches and would love to decrease back down to only a .1mg, but even have a problem decreasing the dosage to a .1mg and a .075 now. I wish someone could explain to me why this has happened but so far my doctor just tells me to use what works as the quality of my life is more important than worrying about dosages. I hope you can find a comfortable dosage for yourself. Take care, Gal.

Can HRT dose need adjustment later on?

Hi Anne

It is not uncommon for our hormonal needs to change over time. I have gone from .05 to .1 with my Vivelle Dot as my needs have changed over time. Stress or illness can also contribute to symptoms of low estrogen, ie. hotflashes and night sweats.

Regarding weight gain.....our metabolism does change when we go into menopause. I have found that I've had to adjust my diet and exercise in order to compensate for metabolism changes following hysterectomy.

Some of us have also found, that after getting fairly balanced out with our estrogen replacement...adding in some progesterone cream aids further in finding balance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the input on dosage adjustments. I think I'll give my doc a call tomorrow and see what he thinks -I need to ask him another question ( I just posted it) by him anyway.
