Well i spent the whole day/night in the ER yesterday. After they made me drink this terriable orange drink so they could do a cat scan to find out what was going on they came back and said they needed to do another cat scan. Well,,,the reason for all my pain is because i have a ovarian cyst. They told me to call my family doc because it will probably need surgary within the next six weeks. I asked how big it was and he put his thumb fingure and pointer fingure together to make a cycle and said that's how big it is. I count my blessings that this is the only problem i have had since i had my hyster. seven years ago. But the pain is unbearable. I think this could be the reason why i have painful sex when my DH pushes hard. I go to my family doc tomarrow (wed) and i'm hoping she don't try to put me on birth control because i don't want to have to take anymore pills then what i already do. I take alot of meds everyday for epilepsy. I'm going to tell her i just want her to take the ov./cyst out. I would hate to have to get this pain again. Do you think she will?? Do you think she will want to try the pill first?? What did your doctor do when you first found out you had a cyst??

After having a transvaginal ultrasound, the doc found the 6.6cm cyst. She gave me choices. I'm not in pain at all.

1. I could have it removed. They almost always recommend to have any cyst larger than 5 cm removed, especially if it's complex.

2. Take birth control pills and wait and see.

I opted to take the b/c pills. I'm on other meds as well, but I figured it was worth a shot. At the time both ovaries were enlarged.

One ovary shrank and one stayed the same. I'm glad I tried the b/c pills, because now I have a chance to save one ovary. When she removes the larger ovary she's going to check the small one. If it looks healthy it stays - if not it goes.

I want to keep at least one ovary (if it's healthy) because there are many benefits from the hormones (the ovary secretes beneficial hormones even after menopause) that keep your bones and heart healthy. Bad hearts and bones run in my family, so I can use all the help I can get.

As far as surgery, if you're in bad pain and you want the ovary removed, tell your doctor. I'll bet they'll listen and do what you ask. If you're not happy with their answer - get another doctor's opinion.

Just my opinion, but I would ask your family doc for a referral to a gynocologist. They're more skilled in this area.

Let us know how you're doing!

Best wishes - Stay Well!
