did anyone take blood thinners w. surgery?

I was wondering if anyone has taken blood thinners either during or after a hysterectomy. If so, did you heal quickly/slowly? Did the doctor have any comments on how the thinners would/could/did affect healing? I am required to take these during all surgery, but have never had surgery since finding that out. (I do not currently take thinners)

I too had to have a daily jab of blood thinners. I had 7 in total and I healed quickly without any problems. It certainly does no harm.

I was given heparin injections just prior to surgery, and during my entire castle stay(Ouch) I had no problem with bleeding or healing. Guess the doctors know what is best...

did anyone take blood thinners w. surgery?

Hi vscndrie;
I take a blood thinner everyday and I was told to take it the morning of my surgery as well and they gave it to me everyday after surgery.
I didn't have any problems healing and my doctor never mentioned to me anything about them affecting my healing.
I think I healed as normal as anyone.
Be sure to write this question down and ask your doctor!

Take care!

Hi there,

I was given Heparin injections in the hospital, and I had to do injections of Lovenox at home for 14 days. The only thing the doc told me was that I might be more bruised, and that I should avoid rough activities (yeah, like I was gonna be doing anything rough anyway). He also told me that any accidental cuts should be monitored to make sure the bleeding didn't continue.

I didnt' experience any problems with healing incision-wise after, but I did have some very pretty bruises. I also had two extra rounds of blood tests afterwards to make sure some level or another had returned to the normal range (can't remember what it was they were testing for).
