Enema before?

I'm 46 and having an Abdominal hysterectomy on Wed. 10/27 for huge fibroids. I've lived with them for 2 years and now I'm to the point where they're ruining my life. I'm keeping my ovaries and cervix, even though both doctors (men) think it's silly. (They're MINE and I want them!)

Anyway, my sister just told me her doctor gave her some stuff to drink the night before surgery, so she didn't have to have an enema. I've already had my pre-op appt. and he didn't give me anything. Anyone else? I'm dreading the whole thing enough without the addition of anticipating an enema first thing in the morning!!! Thanks!

I did not have any kind of bowl prep whatsoever that I know of. Unless they did it after I was asleep in the OR. Call your Dr's office and ask on Monday - that is the best way to know.

Enema before?

I'm scheduled for abdominal hysterectomy on November 8. I have to do the enema and not looking forward to it either. But.. I do get a tummy tuck in the process so will do the enema anyway.

Enema before?

i can say this much.....i have had both before in the past....and if your dr or preop nurses have not mentioned either one to u i would feel very grateful lol.....see the drink is worse than the enema IMHO....it tase soooo awful ..i think they would rather me clense myself at the wrong end anyhow the enema isnt so pleasant either but at least its taking care of the right end ...anyhow my dr didnt mention this to me but i have not been to the hospital preop yet...and when the dr handed me my paperwork to take with me i seen the dreaded words.....fleet enema......ooooooooooo boy thought i was gonna get off easy...well im just glad its not that nasty golytly crap....so hopefully thats it...u dont have to do either...but if u ask me the enema is sooooooo much better than the other....best wishes to u hun and ill pray for your recovery to be quick and easy...hugsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

Enema Plus

I am having a TAH, Monday 10/25 at 7:30 A. M. My doctor told me to do bowel prep starting early Sunday A. M. I have to drink a bottle of magnesium citrate. At 7P. M. and 12 midnight I have to take enemas. Well I have about nine hours before I get started.
Not looking forward to spending the day at home near the bathroom. Hope all goes well with you.

I was lucky not to have a bowel prep done before surgery. If you don't, make sure you buy some stool softener and start taking it when you get home. I learned the hard way.

Enema before?

I had D/C, laparoscopy and hysteroscopy on 5/3/04 and then TAH on 7/19/04 with no bowel prep either time. Both surgeries were on Monday - I ate very lightly on Sunday.
Just call and check with your doctor's office on Monday.
We'll be thinking of you!
Blessings to you!

Each doctor has his/her own way of doing things pre/post op. Follow your doctors orders!!! Do not do any prep YOUR doctor didn't order for YOU--- and DO any prep YOUR doctor ordered for YOU!!!! It is very important that you follow your doctors orders! He/She has their own reasons for the way they do things!

Enema before?

I am having a TVH on Nov. 3. My doc. says no bowel prep. Says that is OLD SCHOOL. Not sure what that means but I'm glad I dont have to do it. I will eat light for about 36 hrs. preceeding surgery just to be on the safe side.

Enema before?

My Dr. Ordered a Fleet Suppository the evening before the surgery. Did not mention an enima at the hosp, or any other bowel prep.

Good luck, and follow your Dr. Directions!
