Usually only 3 days, depending on the incision. Mine was from the navel all the way down and spent 6 days.
They begin with 3 days and then if your not ready to be released they will approve you a longer stay with your insurance company.

I was approved for two nights, surgery was Tuesday I was released late Thursday afternoon. If there is a medical necessity the DR can keep a patient longer, just has to inform the insurance company.

My insurance company only approved two days, so I had mine on Thursday morning and left Saturday afternoon. If I had not been ready, the doctor could have informed the insurance company I needed to stay additional time. I think I would have been more comfortable with staying another day, but I was doing well, walking, passing gas, and eating a regular diet with no problems, so they sent me home.

I had my surgery monday morning, released wed. morning. My dr. came in checked incision on wed. morning, said everything looked fine. Felt my tummy, asked if I had eaten anything, passed gas/had bowel movement, had peed by myself. Then he asked if I had stairs I had to climb, if someone would be home with me for a couple days, if I wanted to go home, and of course if I had children at home to take care of. All these things come into play in when you are released. Good Luck to you

I had mine on a Monday afternoon and left on Thursday morning -- so three nights.

I also had a panniculectomy (they removed my bottom roll of belly fat) so my incision was about 18 inches long. And I had three drains in me...

In some ways, I wish I had been allowed to stay one more day, and I could have done it if I asked. When I called my ins. company, they said I was approved for 365 days a year, as long as it was recommended by the doc.

Hope this helps.

I had my surgery on a Friday and expected to go home on Sunday. Regretfully, infection decided to creep in and I didn't go home until the following Thursday. 6 days later! I'm glad I planned for the unexpected. Good luck to you.
