to stretch or not to stretch...that is the torso.

has anyone else noticed that it feels really good to stretch their torso?

at first, i found laying down kind of uncomfortable b/c it felt like it was stretching my torso too much--now--and actually for about the last week (i am 5weeks and two days)--it actually feels REALLY, REALLY good to stretch the torso. And, I mean a really good long stretch. Has anyone else noticed that???? It almost feels like it takes away those little jibby/jabby, pinchy feelings that i have.

to stretch or not to stretch...that is the torso.

I know what you mean, I have been enjoying a good stretch since a couple of week after my op. Even before IO could stretch abs I would stretch through my hips and legs and it felt so good. I wonder why.

It cant be doing any harm so If it feels good do it.

Hi Mindi: Yeah it does feel really good!! - my Dr. cleared me to do full stretching (though no situps or crunches!) after 3 weeks (last week) and I started doing my Tai Chi light stretching! It felt great! I keep touting the value of Tai Chi in most of my posts and feel like it was one of the main factors in helping me recover quickly and feel really energized throughout this recovery time! Those of you ladies interested in this should first check with your Dr. if you are ready for simple movements and light stretching!

For Pre-op - Tai Chi helped me with the stress and energized this anemic body and soul... and I kept energized throughout the day! The meditation and deep breathing exercises also helped immensely!

I think the stretching really helped my back and muscles in my upper body helped me get walking early (just 4 hours after hyster!)

For post-op - though I really didn't feel comfortable until I asked my Doctor at 3 weeks - he said since I was very mobile, no swelly belly and as long as I took caution to not overdo it - he said go for it - also add low impact aerobics!

I have also taken to (now don't laugh ladies!) doing some simple stretching exercises with my Cat - literally lifting him (he is 12 lbs mainly fur - ck him out in my pics!) and stretching up and down and he loves it too! I'm gonna have my DH take a Pic of me doing this with my cat and I'll post it soon in my pics!

Take care and continued great recovery!

CJ

p.s. Mindi - You live near my old stompping ground as I was growing up in CA! I miss the Palisades! I lived in Brentwood and also went to UCLA!

to stretch or not to stretch...that is the torso.

when I was about 5 weeks post op my dr. said I should not be stretching like that. He said there are still internal stitches in there and may cause damage or even possibly a incision hernia. I am 6 months out(almost) and my abdoman is so very tender when I stretch now. I have alot of scar tissue from my 5 abdominal surgeries. My dr. said however I felt at 6 months out is about how I will continue to feel. I hope he is wrong. If I stretch too much it makes me feel nauseous.Just to rub my hands over my lower abdoman with any pressure is so very tender.
It does feel good to stretch, but at the same time is makes me sore.
I hope none of you do any damage to your internal incisions.

Good luck with your recoveries
Peggy
