had another thought after having my lavh/bso how many stitches will you have on the inside and outside??

also when this type of surgery is done do they always do a bladder sling??
not sure what that is but read a little about it...

and if they don't what are the chances of in the future you will need one??

i read that your bladder could fall or prolapse if this isn't done at the time of the surgery is this true??

thanks for helpin me through this i have had a difficult time dealing with this.....

Hi Witryk,
I had a subtotal abdominal hyst done with no bladder repairs. I kept my cervix and ovaries. I asked about bladder repairs and my Gyn said he did not think I needed it. Are you keeping your cervix? I kept mine because of my age, my difficult childbirth and a history of constipation. It does help to support the pelvic floor.

Talk to your doctor again about what is best for you. He may already know if you need a bladder sling or not. Sometimes they will go in after having said one thing, and finding out they need to do other stuff.....

Hugs and remember waiting is the hardest part!!

Hey,
They will not do a bladder sling unless you truly need it, it's a separate proceedure for a specific problem.
The number of stitches varies a great deal from case to case. I've seen some women that only needed about 2 packs & then the next 'sister' needed 7!!!
Good luck to you & a speedy recovery!

Lisa,

What is a pack and how many stitches does a pack equate to?

Chris-
The packs usually come in lengths: 36 or 52 inches long. So, there's a lot of stitches that can be put in with just one of those.
There's also what we call pop-off's: they have individual needles & they come in a pack of 8 or 10.
Hope that helps.
