Anal Fissure

I was wondering if anyone has had surgery to repair an anal fissure? I have to go in the morning for surgery and I was wondering what I could expect after I get home.

Anal Fissure

I have an anal fissure too. It drives me nuts. No surgery tho. I wonder in they could fix when I have my TAH? That would be great! I have a history with bowel disease and have an illeostomy. I am used to having a pain in the butt! (to put it nicely!) LOL

It is a little tear in the rectum that bleeds and itches like heck.

At least mine is.

I've been having pain and bleeding when I have a bowel movement. Just started about a month ago. How do you get an anal fissure?

You can get them from straining with constipation, or I imagine from giving birth......

I had one a looooooooooong time ago but did not require surgery to fix it.

it reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally hurt.

good luck to those getting theirs fixed!

anal fissure

Hi merefromky!

I had the anal fissure repair surgery (sphincterectomy) one year ago today!!! I don't know if your doctor gave you post-ops instructions, but mine said:

sitz bath after each BM, but at least 4 a day

TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDICATION

use colace to help keep your stools soft

no insoluable fiber (raw fruits, veggies, whole grains) - only soluable (oatmeal, potatoes, pumpkin & citrucel) for 10 days

I know it hurts like******, but it will stop hurting in 4-5 days and you will feel 100% better....take care and e-mail me if you have any more questions or just want to vent!!!

Anal Fissure

Well day two and boy does my butt hurt...lol. Hope this isn't too much info but I had a BM this morning and almost passed out.

Doc really didn't give me much instructions except sitz bath 2 time a day and take a stool softner. I told him before surgery that sometimes the anest. and pain meds make me sick. Well I felt sick in recovery and all I got was a cold wash cloth for my face. Then I had to call once I got home and literally beg for something for nausea. And to top it all off discharge paper said to resume normal activity today...yea right. I can hardly walk. Very apparent he doesn't have any idea how bad this surgery hurts.
