how many sweat pants?

I am having a TVH pretty soon and was wondering how long to expect to be in sweats pants before regular blue jeans. I guess it just depends on the person and how well they are healing. Any other TVH'ers out there. I am keeping ovaries but everything else goes. How did the surgery go, how long in hospital and when can I drive? I know these are questions for doc but until my preop decided to ask here. Is is true that with TVH you recover faster and can go back to work faster? Thx.

how many sweat pants?

hi Cleveland,

okay, first off i was unable to wear true jeans for abour 6 weeks. when i could wear them it was just for awhile especially if i was too active that day. you're belly will swell off and on as you heal. mine did for months following the surgery.

i was in the castle for 3 days due to a really rough night and a fever. i wasn't allowed to drive for 6 weeks, i believe. they don't want you to drive cuz it's hard to break with a sore tummy and what if you got into an accident...your internal stitches would pop open.

i had a TVH with A&P repair and bladder suspension but i think i still would've still healed quicker than if i had all that with a TAH.

how many sweat pants?

I had a TVH 9-29 at 7:30am and was released on the 30th by 10:30 am.

My Dr. stated I could drive as soon as I was off of the rx pain meds... so I was driving 3 days later.

I was sore but it was very managible. I wore a pair of elastic wasted shorts home and for about 2 weeks, but when I left home even 3 days later I was wearing my regular jeans. They felt comfortable because they seemed to keep my stomach in but did not have any pressure from them. (the shorts were just very easy to lounge around in plus it reminded my dh that he was to take care of me .)

I felt that I could go back to work earlier than I did (4 2/1 weeks) but since I do lift files and stretch and bend alot my dr did not want me to go back any sooner. I am 6 weeks post op tomorrow and feel wonderful. This was the best decision I ever made and wish I would have done it a long time ago.

At times if I bend over in my seat to pick something up off of the floor I do feel a twinge of pain in the lower abdomen which my dr said is normal because of the scar tissue etc stretching. I did/have not needed anything for pain after the first 1 1/2 weeks.

The waiting was the hardest part - I kept second guessing myself thinking that the pain and bleeding would go away. If you look at my past posts - I almost felt as though I was loosing my mind because of the worries.

Good luck to you on your upcomming princess-hood!

how many sweat pants?

Any type of hyst is major surgery. The main difference between a TVH and a TAH is the abdominal incision. Otherwise the same things are being cut and stitched, and require the same amount of time to heal.

A benefit to having an incision is it reminds you that you did have surgery and can keep you from doing too much too soon.

Some women go back to work a couple of weeks sooner when they have a TVH instead of a TAH.

But it can't be stressed enough - either way is MAJOR surgery and it's important not to try to rush your recovery, or do too much too soon.

I had a TAH and was able to wear jeans at 2 weeks. That was if I had to leave the house for something. If I was home I was wearing sweats. It's a good idea to stay in PJ's or something else that suggests that you aren't back to normal for as long as possible. It seems that as soon as you're up and looking all better, the people around you forget that you are still recovering from surgery, and the help and sympathy are also forgotten.

Best wishes.
