Will my appendix go too?

Just curious - do they automatically remove your appendix if you still have one?

(I'll ask my DR this question too.)

Just printed out my list of things for the hospital and things I'll need when I get home. Today I'll shop for those items. I have ONLY ONE WEEK TO GO!

I doubt they will automatically take out your appendix just because they are in there. They REALLY don't like to do anything extra because it only adds to the possibility of complications.

However, if you have been having problems with your appendix, they may just go for it. Talk to the doc.

They didn't remove my appendix when I had my surgery. I doubt they'll remove it if it's not necessary.

My appendix was removed because I had endometriosis on it. Of course, this was nothing he could have predicted before my surgery. Funny thing is, my insurance doesnt want to pay for the appendectomy now because it wasnt pre-certed ............ well DUH!!! My doctor didnt know. Dont you just love insurance, LOL!! Hard to do without it though ......................

The only reason they should remove your appendix is if there is something wrong with. For gynae purposes, this might mean it has endometriosis on it, or, if you have a mucinous cystadenoma on your ovary they will remove your appendix because they often spread from there.

I go in for my surgery on Friday and my Dr. told me that he will be removing my appendix so it doesn't cause me any problems in the future. My sister just had an emergency appendectomy about a month and a half ago. I'm not sure what your appendix does anyway?
