vaginal cuff

Hi again,

I wanted to know if there is an actual incision( with stitches) inside the vagina or just a fold when having a vaginal cuff? (this would be an abdominal hysterectomy.) Or maybe the fold is inside the abdominal area. The reason I am asking is that I am highly at risk for infection (I carry beta strep in the vagina).
I wondered if anyone else had this and how the doctors keep the inside incision from getting infected (if there is one). Do they use the beta dine like the women who have vaginal birth with step in the vaginal?

vaginal cuff

I had it done and when I went in for my 3 week appt., the Dr. did an internal exam and told me the cuff was in great shape. He explained that the stitches dissolve and some spotting will occur at that time. The cuff, for obivous reasons, reduces the length of the vagina slightly. I don't know about rates of infection with regards to where the stitches are placed. I imagined it to be like sewing the top of a sock closed with stitches gathered in the center - - never thought about whether or not it was more of a fold. Try "googling" it...
