Bowel Movements

Liz's CaaCaa Cocktail:

1/2 cup Prune Juice
1/2 cup Soy milk
1 Tbsp Flax Seeds

Take one mid afternoon and one at bedtime.

I'm 8 days post-op and for the past 2 days I've had multiple easy poops in the morning and stopped using the suppositories I'd been using since last day in the hospital.

I also drink a cup of coffee with breakfast, which helps.

Be careful about what fiber you use. If you use a Wheat based fiber you can get horrible gas and bloating. My dr. recommends Cirtucel. No gas at all! its great!

Citrucel is made of "methylcellulose"

I have no objection to synthetic chemicals -- hey, the ultramm painkillers I got after surgery were great -- but flax seed and prune juice are foods and I think if you can get the action you want from food products, it's better than resorting to chems.

Everyone needs to find out for herself what might cause bloating and gas pain.

Although I find the gas annoying it's actually not worse than gas I used to have pre-op -- it's just gas pressing against parts of the body that have been cut and flayed, so it seems worse.

Bowel Movements

My whole life I have dealt with constipation, so I was ready when I read before my surgery that it may be a problem. I have had no problem since my LAVH 7 days ago - for which I am very greatful. I tried these and they worked for me:

1) no cold drinks - always room temperature or warmer. And no carbonated drinks. I like to drink diluted apple juice (just to keep the calories down) and diluted gatoraid, or herbal tea.
2) A cup of non-fat yogurt mixed with chopped fruit every day. The bowel prep before and antibiotics will kill the natural flora in your system that helps to digest. Must be a yogurt with active cultures - I recommend Stonyfield organic non-fat with 6 active cultures, and no extra estrogen from antibiotic fed cows.
3) Flax seed oil pills every day.

Hope this helps someone.
Thank God for this site - it has kept me sane thru it all!!

I was teasing my doctor that I wanted to be constipated. I've had loose stool since coming out of surgery. Major blow outs in the hospital. Day 8 I still feel like I'm passing a truck and it's a size of a pea.

For another surgery I used suppositories. Worked great if you are really having trouble.

Feel better!!

not that I'm obsessing about this, but noticed the following while exploring some of the other message boards - seems to be such a common problem, thought I'd add this on -
