Bowel Resectioning Surgery Any one?

Hello ladies, I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving! Mine was great, except for this severe pain from having a small bowel resectioning surgery. Has any one else had one? I went in for what was supposed to hernia surgery on my hysterectomy scar. Well, they found dense adhesions, and cut my bowel, so they had to resection it. Now, I hate to be a whiner, well OK, maybe a little bit! But this surgery was absolute sheer torture. It paled in compare, to my my hyst. I am 3 weeks post op and started having bad burning, stabbing pain in my lower tummy. I don't know whether to call the Doctor, or just hope it will go away. I would love to hear from someone who has been in my shoes. I guess I just do not know what to expect. Will I ever be the same? Thank you so much for listening, I really needed to vent! Peace be with you...Robin in Nebraska

Bowel Resectioning Surgery Any one?

Hi Robin! I'm sorry you've had to go through so much. I had a colon resection about a year and a half ago, a year after my hyst. A little over three feet was removed. I must say it was a much more difficult surgery and recovery than my hyst was. A year and a half later I still feel it in my incision area (I had a vertical, breastbone to pubic bone).

I was still in a substantial amount of pain at three weeks post op, too. But, if things are getting worse and not better, I'd talk with your DR about it. I wasn't on pain meds after the first week, just strong anti-inflammatories (Vioxx at the time).

I found that I was really 'not myself' for a year or so after the colon resection. A few months ago I was finally able to start exercising (Curves), and that has helped a whole lot.

It's a long road back after a resection, at least in my experience... but I have every confidence that eventually I will be 100% again, and so will you.

s,
-Linda

Bowel Resectioning Surgery Any one?

I had a colon resection 5 weeks ago, along with my TAH/BSO, appy, rectal prolapse repair, and rectocele repair. I am having some pain in my lower left side; not sure if its from the resection or if I may have adhesions forming. Was feeling well enough to go hit a mall today on Black Friday (!), but needed to lie down when I got home. Going to ask my surgeon next week how much he removed.

Glad to know I'm not recovering unduly slowly from this. Didn't appreciate hearing from my m-i-l that she was back in classes 3 weeks after her hyst, and how could I still be feeling so tired at 4 weeks! She did apologize for butting in, tho.

Thank you SO much Suferbabe, and Mollybee for responding to my post. That is why I LOVE Hystersisters. It has been years since my hysterectomy, but when I still need a moral booster, you ladies are still here for me! Just knowing that someone else has been through what I have, and worse, gives me peace of mind! Happy healing and Holidays! Love, from Robin in Nebraska!

Robin, I am so sorry that you are going through yet another surgery. I have never had a resection before, but I know recovery is rough. If you feel your pain is not any better, I would call the doc and let him know how you are doing, just to be on the safe side.
I hope things get better for you!

Molly,

Sorry your MIL was being a pain, but she only had hyst, you had so many other things going on along with the hyst. Remember everyone recovers differently anyway. If you are having pain again after 5 weeks, it might be a good idea to check in with your doc just to make sure everything is okay.

Good luck to you both and I hope your recoveries get better!
