I had surgery the 17th and came home the 20th. Doc said I had problems with the knock out meds. I tried doing a little more Thursday and paid for it, Friday did nothing hubby wouldn't let me. Started bleeding I'm ok now. Exercise is just walking but would love to get on my gazelle but will wait till next week and go slow. No pain meds now for 2days actually put on jeans today but my fat ones. Hope every one else is doing fine too. Don't think I'm up for moving house. good luck everyone. This was worth it.

At one week post op you shouldn't be doing anything! You definately should not be exercising next week, I don't care how slow you go. You should not do anything like that without your doc clearing you to do so.
You only have one chance to recover and you want to do it right without complications.
you are given this time to rest, nap, relax and heal...not to clean house, work out, etc. You might be feeling good now, but with every few goo days , there is usually a bad one not to far behind. Please follow docs instructions.
Did you know that if you hurt yourself doing something that you were not cleared for and say you had to go back to hospital, the insurance company can deny payment and you would be responsible for the entire bill?
Please take it easy, nap, rest and all that good stuff.

My surgery was the 16th and I came home on the 18. Not doing much of anything. Yesterday, I went out with DH to get ice cream and my mail and that was it. I am so out of sorts.

Wednedsay, I mentioned there was ham and eggs in the fridge. DH thought that meant that I was going to make them. HA HA HA.

He is surviving.

I just sleep and read and watch tv. Take little walks around the house and yard. Today I slept until 1:30! YEAH.

Still in pain and still have huge tummy. YUCK.

Reminder to all- take it easy. If you are bleeding you are doing too much.

I don't know any other way to say this but,

STAY OFF OF THAT GAZELLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have one of those great contraptions and you have no business getting onto that without your doctors consent!!!!!! The amount of abdominal muscles you need to use on the gazelle is to strenuous right now. You will risk the successful results of the surgery and possibly cause adhesions and scar tissue not to mention tearing some of your internal stitches!!!

Please wait for your doctors consent before you use any type of exercise equipment! please.

Rest, drink plenty of water and walk around enough to keep your bowels moving and rest some more!! You only have one chance to recovery successfully.

Take Care,
Char

I guess I just realized the gazelle was a machine- I thought It was a metaphor for... who knows? I had my surgery on Monday- and I feel like Im waiting for the other shoe to drop. Why am I sleeping well? Why am I comfortable? I feel like I could go to work tomorrow (and I train horses for a living). I just keep hoping things stay this good! Im finding it very hard to go slow.
I did get several good books I feel obligated to read, and trying to enjoy watching TV. You take it easy, as I will too- and things will be more FUN soon!

Marian is absolutely right.

It is the meds that make you feel like you can do stuff. Don't do it! And you should still be in your JAMMIES! I wore mine for TWO WEEKS (well, not the same ones...)!!

I don't know what a Gazelle is (other than the animal), but I wouldn't want to be on one even without this surgery. hahaha...no athlete here.

Your mantra throughout this entire healing process should be: Rest, Water, Walk. EXCEPT for at least the first month, in which case it should be: Rest, Water, Drugs.

Tommorow marks the 1 week mark for me too and I'm feeling great. I have definitely been taking it easy - sitting in bed with my laptop, reading, playing games on my PDA, napping, watching TV and trying not to feel guilty while the man of the house vacuums. Sometimes I think I'd rather be up cleaning toilets than vegging out so much, but I know I want to heal properly!

I'm averaging about 1 Motrin 600mg a day and sometimes I don't even feel like I need that. Tomorrow my staples come out and I'm getting a little nervous about that.

We women are such go-getters, trying to do everything for everyone that it's hard to relax and recuperate. But try to enjoy your time of healing - it will be over soon and we'll all be back to taking out the trash just like Mikey on American Chopper.

Cheers!

I am one week post-op. Even with a holiday in the middle of the week, it has seemed like the longest week of my life. A coworker let me borrow about 100 movies to watch while I was recovering. I have watched at least 25 of them so far LOL I drove on Friday for the first time......such LIBERATION! I have had good and bad days. Today was a bad one. I literally have done nothing except bathe and wash a few dishes. My stomach has hurt and I do believe I have had a touch of a tummy virus. At least I am not constipated any longer...LOL I know I have tried to do too many things this week and I think I paid for it this weekend. I have just had the BLAHs too. I am not bleeding and other than the typical swelly belly (which gets worse at night) I really do look the same and almost feel the same. Slowly but surely - we will get there. I have contemplated going back to work at 4 weeks but will just wait and see. I didn't have a large incision (I have four small ones) and sometimes feel guilty about feeling so good this soon...I know that sounds nuts but its true.

Oh and yes, I agree - stay off that GAZELLE!! Ouch that could cause some serious problems! My eliptical trainer will just continue sitting in my room gathering dust....and clothes!! I will catch up on exercising in January when we all do our New Years resolutions...LOL
