Hi there everyone !
I am 4 weeks post-op and okay except for problems with IBS. What I really would like to know is if I can go on holiday. The driving part ( 580 Km ) is worrying me. The dr. said it should be ok but I would just like to know what a sister with a abdominal hyst. has to say about this.

Carry a pillow to make your tummy comfy if you need to, and I think you will probably be ok. Will you be doing all the driving? Take it in short legs, stop when you need to, and walk a bit. At least you are not overdoing it by lifting, twisting, etc. when you are in the car! Now that I am past six weeks, riding and driving is not hard at all...but I still use my pillow some, just for peace of mind. I have been able to ride with no problems for several weeks, and drive ok for perhaps a week.

As for the IBS, you might want to look into a low carb diet. I know a few people who have had impressive improvement in IBS by cutting out the carbs.

Have a great holiday!

Adelle, when I was in my 4th week post op, my hubby and I drove 9 hours to see my Marine son. My hubs is really good about stopping when I wanted to , so whenever I got a bit uncomfortable we would stop and I would stretch, I did not drive at all, I read alot and napped. I was a bit tired the next day, but was ok and then we had the 9 hour trip back home the day after that.
Like Monet said, take it easy and make frequent stops and I think since the Doc said ok, just take it easy and you'll be ok too.
Big hugs, Carolyn
