Saw PM Doctor Saturday 12/4.... opions please!!

I saw the PM doctor today... I don't know what to think.... I arived and the lady @ the front desk in my mind was very cold. She told me to hang up my jacket & she took me to a room, asked me a few questions about my paper work that they had me fill out. She asked me how offten I take pain pills, I tried to explain to her as needed. Which some times can mean none a week or it can me 10 - 15 a week depending on the pain. I don't think she understood. And she made me feel really uncomfterble. She told me to undress & put a gown on that the doctor would be in shortly.

She & the doctor entered the room about 5 mins latter. The doctor asked me to lay down & asked me to point to where my pain is. He felt the area had me take a few deep breaths, put my legs up to my chest, cross my legs, and told me that it is more then likely nerve intrapment, adheasions & possible some endo. DUH.... That's what I have been saying & my GP has been saying since March....

The hole time his nurse sat in the corner with a clip bord taking notes with a cold stair that made me very uneasy.

He stated that he is not sure how much of it is Endo because once one has there uterus removed it is rare to get Endo... Hello endo grows off of estrogen and I have both ovaries!!! He then stated he does not recomend any surgery or removal of my ovaries because there is no garrenty my pain would go away. It may decrease by 50 persent, but in his opion that is not enough to have surgery. He said it looks like the lupron has helped, why dont you stay on the lupron... I told him I have already taken 6 shots & had done one proir to my LAVH. He did not know that one can not take more then 6 shots.

He put me on Topamax, 75 mg, to start 25 mg for the first week & then 50 mgs @ night and 25 mg in the moring. He said he wanted me to do physical therpy. I am to see him again in 2 months. I was told to get dress & the nurse handed me a script for the pills & theropy told me to call the theropy office to schedule the appoinments.

The hole apointment with the PM doctor lasted 15 mins.... I was shocked.... I was told that the appointment would last a minumin of 1 hour to as long as 2-3 hrs, and to bring a driver along, not to eat anything after midnight. I was also given a packet of paper work to fill out prior to the appointment about my pain. The funny or not so funny thing about it was the doctor never even looked @ it. Nurse cold stair took the paper work & put it on a clip board which she held the hole time when she put me in the room & never even gave it to the pm doctor.

When I left I looked at the script for theropy... Its for pool theropy, I am allergic to clorine... How am I to do pool theropy! They never said it was pool theropy.

Dh is upset... Says I should call my GYN and say okay I went for the consoltant, not happy with thoughts, and tell him that I want the surgery... 50 persent improvement is better then none.

I don't know what to do... After what the pharmist told my about the Topamax I am afraid to take it. I am sitting hear looking at the bottle not sure what to do.

I hope I soon wake up from this nightmare.

(Essie, thank you for the hugs... I need them right now...)

I did not sleep much last night about 3 1/2 hrs.... I ended up not taking the topamax. I new I have to drive to my moms today & to our farm... DH is droping off a 3 rd veh at the farm that we don't use, & I did not want to take a new script that says us cation while driving & may cause may one tired.

Well better finish getting ready, we have to leave here in 20 mins if going to make it on time... Even though knowing DH we will be late.

S Sweety Tweety,

I am so sorry you had such a negative experience at your PM appointment...I agree in that I wouldn't want to take any med prescribed by a doc who didn't spend a lot of time going over my history etc. When this has happened to 'me' I usually wait to start the script after I have seen either my GP or another Doc I see frequently.

You said: "The hole apointment with the PM doctor lasted 15 mins.... I was shocked.... The funny or not so funny thing about it was the doctor never even looked @ it."

I was told virtually the same thing and for me - it was what happened. From my experience, the first PM appointment does usually last the longest, with the next few usually being long as well (due to tests etc). I can totally understand your confusion...

I'm wondering who referred you to this clinic? I would call this doc ASAP to discuss what happened and how you are not satisfied with your treatment etc. Is there another doc at this facility you could see? Or perhaps a better Pain Clinic in your area? If I were you, I wouldn't settle for this doc...

Sorry to go on and on...But I am concerned and you deserve so much better...

Sending you more S and let us know how you are doing....

If you can go get another opinion that would be very helpful.
I don't know what kind of insurance you have.

I went to 5.....YES 5! Doctors before I was comfortable.

You simply MUST be comfortable. Also, they should run some tests to rule out things.

Try to get at least a second opinion.

Oh ((((Kim)))) No wonder you're confused: appointments with any new doctor (even a GP) usually takes longer than 15 minutes... and with a specialist, it's usually even longer

Not only would I call the doctor who referred you to this pain therapist and demand a second opinion, I would also NOT go for the pool therapy, considering you're allegic to Choride

Take care and hang there: there's gotta be a doctor out there who will help you out

I am so sorry you have a doctor who ha no clue about endo. It is wonderful you are educated on this ugly disease.
I wish I had more to offer, I think both that woman and the Dr. need a *punch*
You really need to get to an endo specialist. Lupron will not fix it.
Pool therapy will not fix it. Only excision will help and they cannot tell you how much better you will feel. That is just ignorance on their parts!
Gosh, that kind of treatment of women just burns my buttons!Take care,
Carrie

(((Sweety Tweety)))

If you felt uncomfortable, trust your instincts, dear. Find another PM doctor. You need one knowledgable in endo, at the least. Add that to all the other negatives about your appointment and I am reading ....switch docs!

Good luck to you.

Pool Therapy

Hi Sweetie!

s I am so sorry you are in such pain and had such a disappointing experience.

I have done pool therapy for my arthritis and found it helped a great deal not only with my arthritis but also with my hysterectomy recovery and pelvic pain -- I think taking gravity out of the picture can really help some of us. Please call the therapist who would do the therapy -- some pools use Bromine, which may be easier on your skin and not cause the same reaction as Chlorine. I know that it was easier on my skin, though some women had rashes.

Love and healing wishes,
Loretta

You need to find another doc. I better spend more than 15mins in my GP's office for whatever reason, muchless a new pain doc!
You did not get what you were looking and hoping for and that is a doc who is throrough and a doc that listens. Sounds to me like he was dismissing you.
