4 weeks Tues. Started bleeding heavy today

Hi sisters, I was doing great until today, not even spotting. I went to get dressed and gush!! bright red blood- called the Doc. right away she said it probably was a new blood vessel breaking, ask if i did any heavy lifting I said no, aren't we suppose to try to do a little more each day? Now she said bed rest today to see if it will clot on its own, 4 hours later and it has stopped. my question now is how long do I tippy toe around? I am going to call her tommorow but wondered if this happened to any one else?NowIwill be afraid to do anything, also I thought we were sewn up (vag. cuff) is that where the blood vessel is? at first I thought she meant inside the pelvic floor but if it is sewn shut how could blood get thru? I'm sorry so long and all the questions, hopefully some one has gone tru this already with some advise Thanks to all in advance, Randi

Im sorry this has happened to you. I will be 4 weeks tomorrow, and I know its hard to not do the things I feel I want to do. Your post is a good reminder for me as to why I cant lift things yet. I've not had any spotting either. I think we tend to get the idea that we are above the rules because everything is going so well.
Like I said, Im sorry this happened to you, but Im glad to know why we cant do the things they tell us we cant do.
Good luck to you.

Whoa! That doesn't sound good. Please let us know how things turn out, okay?

I'm in week 3, going on 4, and I've been increasing activity gradually. But hearing about your incident, maybe I should cut back a little!

Please take care of yourself!

Hi Randi

I'm sorry to hear what happened to you.. I am same day as you and am trying to go back to work part time tomorrow and wouldn't you know-- not the spotting you had, but some major discomfort - ok- pain.. inside just below the belly button.

I didn't have this until I put on regular clothes today.. finding my loosest pants. I am wondering if I was scrunching 'things' in there? or just some healing going on??

anyway..good luck to you. hope the bed rest takes care of it for you.. and makes me doubly sure I will still be careful with picking up anything!!

Warsaw, NY? I came from Groton, NY (south of Syracuse) make sure you aren't shoveling snow- or pushing it!

I am glad I found this post. I am not going to lecture. I hope I can give you all some good advice. I have been where you were and here is what I have to say. I would say you are still in the healing stage. You need to stay down and let your body heal up. Do not do any housework until the six week check up as your vaginal cuff may be healed at that point. Your stiches are dissolving at this stage. You were sewn up inside and out with hundreds of stitches. I know it gets hard and wow do i remember the boredom. But you get one chance to heal right and this is the time.
I would advice the sister who is going bck to work at four weeks part time to reconsider. You need the six to eight weeks to heal. If you go back too soon you could risk complications. I have read on here some of the complications of sisters doing too much too soon. You will be back in swing of things in a couple of weeks. If the clothing is not comfy that is telling you your body is still healed. Did you get dr's clearance to go back?
I hope you all realize that yes you gradually increase things but keep it simple and easy until you get clearance from dr to vacume, do light housekeeping.
The other thing to remember is that this surgary can take up to a year for our bodies to totally heal up.
I remember fighting exhaustion at 7 weeks going back to work. I still battle that a bit.
Just remember resist the urge to over do it and it may not seem like it at the time but your body lets you know. Your body is not normal right at has lost a major organ or organs and it is trying to compensate and heal itself.
So remember to pamper yourself and enjoy this time off. I wish I was back there and had enjoyed it more then i did. Now im back in school part time and working.
The housework and responsibilities will always be there.
The bleeding is a sign too much was done somewhere and the spotting and pain is a sign to stop what you are doing.
I care if you have questions or need help pm me.
I have been where you were. I will be one year march5th. It seems like yesterday I had this surgary but hard to believe it was that long ago.
take care and God bless you. I will be praying for all three of you!

Thanks Teresa- I am planning on the going back to work to be an 'easey does it phase'

I can bring some things home so I will gather that first and then take care of whatever administrative 'stuff' I need to so that I can make a fast get away.

Who knows may be more like an everyother day part time??

I sure do wish that I had found this site pre-op since my doctor was telling me 3-4 weeks!! I also know that I do not want to live with stuff for the rest of my life because I did it wrong now..!!

Thanks for reminding me though.. not preaching at all.

4 weeks Tues. Started bleeding heavy today

just had a TAH/BSO on Wed. Can't type long. don't know if anyone answered your question because I can't sit long enough to read the replies.

The cuff has a very small opening that does not close or heal for about 6 weeks. It is left that way purposely for drainage of the abdomen. This is what my doctor told me. At the 6 week check up ,doctor takes a look to see how well it's healing as drainage should be about done.

got to go.......Maralyn

yw the vaginal cuff sometimes does not heal and thedr will know that at sixweeks as that is when first internal exam is done. Don't worry if that happens it is damp in there and sometimes it happens. I was like the one who just replied was single and alone for most of recovery. STayed on bed rest most of recovery and went out for walks once a day and kept going to store to a min. And at the six week mark was cleared. I did do one thing that was hard i did jury duty for three days or was it two. We went home early all those days and one day we went home before noon as there was hardly any cases. Ilucked out. I was five and half weeks at that point and still using a cane.
I recommend a cane for getting around it gave me the support i needed.
take care all and remember it takes time to heal up.
