IV site pain as bad as surgery site pain.

My IV infiltrated (I think is what you call it) anyway came out of the vein and was running into my arm. I am telling you the pain in my arm is everybit as bad as the pain from the surgery. I still have a very sore spot on the same arm where they tried to start the IV when they did my LAP 5 weeks ago.

I have tried using heat but its not helping. Any other suggestions out there?

IV site pain as bad as surgery site pain.

It is nice to know that I am not the only one who does that. After one surgery, my hand hurt a lot longer than the incision and I mean months. 2 surgeries ago, my IV leaked into my arm and it was swollen up huge after the operation. It didnt cause me any pain at that time and my body absorbed the fluid. I am sorry that I dont have any suggestions for you on the pain. I just whined alot and kept going LOL. I am more picky about where they put the IVs now though. It irritates the nurses but it is my body that has to hurt afterwards. I always ask for my IVs to be put in my arm not my hand now. For some reason, the nurses dont like this but it made a big difference in pain levels for me.

good luck

Ouch

Yes it does hurt-when the prep nurse was starting the IV she said "Oh, Shoot" and I looked down and my wrist was huge. She took that out and started one in my other hand. So when I got home both hands were black and blue, and very sore. I had a lump about 3 inches above my hand that really hurt.

I never did find anything that would help-I asked the doc, he said to be patient it would go away. It just took awhile.

Hope yours feels better soon.

IV site pain as bad as surgery site pain.

Hi
I had a small knot where my IV for the blood transfusion was. It was quite sore for several weeks. My sister who is a vet tech. said it would go away and it did.
I am now experiencing pain in between my left wrist and the start of my first finger. When I grab things or even rub my hand while washing it,I have pain. I also am experiencing pain in my middle finger up by the top knuckle. I have no idea if this is related to a IV site, I've had 10 or more iv's from my two surgeries and many tests requiring a IV.I will give it some time and see if it goes away.
I think heat might be the best method for the knot, but that is only my opinion. Keep a eye on it and if it continues hurting please call your dr.
