No internal exam at 6 week check-up????

I just had my 6 week check-up last friday but didnt get an internal exam. I was given the go-ahead to have intercourse. But now after reading more posts I wonder why I didnt have an internal after all. Since my cervix was removed then therefore I would have a vaginal cuff right????? I never even got to ask as I forgot. Now I am wondering. My dh doesnt want to do anythign till january anyway. That way it will be 10 weeks. So its not like I am too excited but just wondering?

What do you all think?

No internal exam at 6 week check-up????

I agree. Docs do differ, but there should have been some sort of internal exam at some point, at least in my opinion...

No internal exam at 6 week check-up????

Hi there! I too never got an internal exam and when he finished pushing on my stomach he just said the incision was well healed and I didn't have to see him again....ever???!!! He was a real Gem!
I kinda thought an internal was part of the 5-6 week checkup.

Total TAH.....everything gone including ovaries.
How can they give a go ahead for sex, and resuming all regular activities at 6 weeks without thoroughly checking up inside?

No internal exam at 6 week check-up????

I agree. For the life of me I don't see how you know if something's healed unless you have a look!!! At my 6 week checkup my doctor told me I wasn't healed properly yet and to wait another couple of weeks for sex. I would never have known that if he hadn't looked! I'd had absolutely no discharge since my surgery, no infections, very little pain, in other words nothing to show at all that I wasn't healed and ready to go at 6 weeks.

I guess the majority of woman are healed at 6 weeks, but then again, as we all know, we're all different and there's no guarantee. You'd think it wouldn't take much extra effort or time to have a quick peek up inside, if for no other reason than reassurance that all is okay.

No internal

Hello
I haven't had a check up either.
When I had my stiches out my GP told me that an internal or smears in the future were not needed.
Apart from going back to see her if I have HRT problems, she said there was no need to see me.
I am going back to see her because my DH and I tried intercourse the othernight and I now have no sensation at all.
Before my op when we did have the chance to do anything (Because of bleeding almost constantly) Iwas always really aroused.
Now nothing is it just the op or hormonal?
I'll let you know how I get on.

lack of sensation

From what I have been experiencing and reading on here, lack of sensation can be from the surgery yet-you are still early in your recovery. It can be that the blood supply to the genital area was disrupted and it takes some time to re-establish itself. I did read one post (can't remember whose) -that said she regained her sensation around 1 year post op. Others said 4 to 6 to 8 months.

There is a study going on right now in the US for women with arousal problems after a hysterectomy. I personally don't like having to wait for a study, but what choice do we have?

I do know that my sensation has changed and improved since my first go-ahead for sex, so I do have hope.

You also might want to check out the Hormone Jungle-some are trying some herbal and OTC remedies, or hormones for this with mixed results.

It is frustrating though I think

No internal exam at 6 week check-up????

My doctor said it is important to be checked at 6 weeks. Also, granulation can be forming by then and it can be taken care of at that visit.

Question

What is granulation?

Granulation as I understand it, is the normal healing process of the tissue that forms at the cuff site. Sometimes, the granulation does not heal up completely causing a pinkish/brownish discharge. I've heard some say that intercourse is uncomfortable too but I don't know about that for sure.

To promote healing, the doctor can freeze the cuff area (vaginally) and cauterize it with silver nitrate. I had this done twice after the birth of each child because my cervix would not heal.

Anyway, my doctor told me it's important to visually check the cuff site to see that it is healing properly. Hope this helps to explain.
