LSH/BSO questions

I'm new to this and 5 days post op from a LSH/BSO. How long can I expect the belly swelling to continue?? It is driving me crazy. I have alot of body image issues to begin with and the fact that I can't get into my pants isn't helping matters at all. I try to get out and do some brief walking (10-15 minutes) - and it only gets worse. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Ari

LSH/BSO questions

Ari!

I'm glad you found the Hystersisters! You are very early in your recovery and swelly belly is different for everyone...some ladies have it and some don't. I had a TVH and my swelly belly usually appeared at the end of the day for about 4 - 5 weeks after my surgery. As I got more into my recovery and my doctor began lifting restrictions, it seemed to get better. For me, walking too much or standing too long during those first weeks caused me to have swelly belly and I thought I would be wearing knit pants for the rest of my life. I tried to drink plenty of water and just take short slow walks here and there throughout the day.

Swelly belly isn't fun, especially when you can't wear your favorite jeans but it usually doesn't last forever. Just remember to rest, drink plenty of water and take short slow walks. It will just take some time. s
