Re: What to do with supplies that are no longer needed

I too passed mine along. Gave them to my sister in law. I figured it was just the right thing to do. My mom did the same several years ago. She sent my brother over with a large garbage bag full of supplies! I think a shelter would be a nice place to donate them too.

Re: What to do with supplies that are no longer needed

I threw mine one by one through the bedroom door at my teenage daughter usually lying in bed first thing whilst I get ready for work. I do this as its funny to be able to say" do you want these cos I don't need them". Bless her!!!! She gets well grumpy when I say that!!!!

Re: What to do with supplies that are no longer needed

My friend has terrible heavy flow, I gave her all my super duper heavy weight ones that I had to keep bringing back from america as they don't sell them here in the UK - I had bags of them, she was well chuffed! (I guess Customs won't be giving me the same funny looks any more!!)

Re: Uses for Left Over Pads, Tampons, etc?

I really do urge people to give their supply to a shelter, Salvation Army, or other organization.

A close friend of mine runs a 'young adult' homeless shelter which mostly serves kids coming out of the foster care system. The average age is 18, but they have many who are younger and some up to age 23. Feminine products and toilet paper are the tangible donations they do NOT publically solicit donations for because oddly, the general public doesn't want to hear about it. They spend many thousands of dollars each year buying these things from their grant monies and cash donations.

I plan to donate all my supplies and give an additional $100 worth of TP and tampons and pads. I might throw some bus passes in there too... that's another thing people don't think about that shelters desperately need.

Re: Uses for Left Over Pads, Tampons, etc?

I donated mine to the nurse's office at the high school where I work. We have quite a few disadvantaged/homeless kids and I know some of them barely have money for food let alone anything else.

Pads, Tampons and other things that go bump in the night

Since I only had 4 days between being scheduled and surgery, i never had much time to prepare, and am so thankful for this site

Of course the free Hystersisters hysterectmy booklet arrived after my surgery as it was all so unexpected and i was way late on ordering. But I finally got to read it today and even the "pre OP" section was interesting although i am 2 weeks post

Funnily enough just today I was thinking of what to do with my cupboard full of pads and tampons .. Not to mention those that are in evey bag, backpack, pocket, cubbyhole etc

So for those of you that didn't get to read it, I thought their suggestions of donating them to the school nurse, or a local women's shelter were great! (I don't however thinki will be using them as knee pads or to clean the car!!)

Thanks for a great booklet and for this site!!!

Re: Pads, Tampons and other things that go bump in the night

I was just reading your post to my husband and he said that you can also send tampons to members of the Army. They are carried by soilders to stop bleeding from gun shot wounds. Learn something new today.

Re: Pads, Tampons and other things that go bump in the night

I'm keeping most of mine- they now live on a high shelf in my guest bath for the sake of guests who might get caught without supplies....and a few in the first aid kit for pressure bandages and sling cushions....and a few in the glove boxes for defogging windows.....and I used one the other day while doing my nails- made a great surface for removing polish and applying new, did not slip around and absorbed little remover drips without adding bits of lint or stray threads to the process
