TMI ? Strange smell

Had TAH on 12-2-2004. She cut the incision under my stomach, so the incision site is kind of not exposed to the air. The last day or 2 it has been burning and smells, a bit like cheese. It looks fine, but I carefully washed it in the bath and it still smells of cheese.
Anyone else had this?

TMI ? Strange smell

Are you using hydrogen peroxide after you bath to dry the area? My doc had me use the peroxide twice a day, in the morning after my shower and in the evening before bed. It keeps the site of the incision dry. I also use a gauze pad over the incision to absorb any wetness. Call your doc about the burning and smell, it could be a minor infection.
Good luck.

I would definitely call the dr.

It won't hurt, and you might be saving yourself from some trouble!

please call and then let us know how you are doing.

TMI ? Strange smell

I've had a yeast infection of the skin under the tummy last year way before my surgery.
Actually it was summer before last and we found out that too many all day trips to the pool had caused moisture and a yeast infection. It was red, raw looking and sorta burned.
I was given some kind of prescription cream and it took a good week to clear up even though it felt better almost immediately.
I don't remember an odor but I hadn't just surgery in the area either. I remember after that I took 2 bathing suits with me and would change and allow the other to dry as I was in and out of the pool.

I will say this..at about 6 days post op-- my steri strips began to curl after a shower and later that evening I had the most horrendous odor coming from my incision area. It was the steri strips..but I also noticed some gooey drainage stuff under them as they came off.
I told my doctor about it and she checked me real good at my last check up and said it was probably just drainage that had accumilated over the days which caused the odor on the steri strips and that a little bit of drainage could be normal and she saw the amount I was seeping.
She suggested to me to use peroxide but to dilute it with water a bit..so it isnt so harsh..and to dry very well after using it.
She reminded me to continue to use the hair dryer for my inicision site even after gently drying with a towel.
All is well here.
Every now and then when its about shower time I notice a bit of moisture and just a hint of that smell-it's not cheesy..its the death smell..bad and strong....even now..so I just try to take care to wipe often and keep things dry.
Ps- i also use a maxi pad in the area or a big gauze rolled up and place it under my tummy.
Good Luck

Thanks for the advice, I went to GP today and she said it was a fungal infection. She took a swab, but gave me cream to put on in the meantime, before the swab result comes back. Hopefully it will clear soon!! Will use the hairdryer after washing too and put in a pad.
