PMS after SAH

Okay, my doctor said I could experience PMS since I kept my ovaries. I have been 2 months since surgery, and I'll be darned if I didn't get water retention (which made swelly belly return) this week, the week that I would have had aunt flo. So glad she is not coming back but the in-laws can take a hike. Anyone else experience PMS after surgery?

PMS after SAH

Hi,

If you keep your ovaries, the chances are if you had PMS before surgery, you will still have PMS symptoms after surgery since you still have the same hormones.

However, a lot of ladies (myself included) have noticed that the symptoms get milder as time goes by. I'm 2 1/2 years post-op, and I can barely tell where I am in my cycle anymore, though PMS was really bad before and immediately after surgery.

It's also common for your hormones to go berserk the first few months. You may want to talk to your doctor about taking an over-the-counter soy supplement, such as Healthy Woman or Estroven, just until everything settles down.

s,

Lisa

PMS after SAH

Hi Patty,
Yes I had a bout of PMS.... hehe and lucky I did not end up in jail!! The weekend before my 7th week, I went from being me, to being darned close to the devil in disguise!! I picked fights just cuz I could...Someone would look at me and I was on them. Monday morning found me in ER, crying my eyes out cuz my family hated me (wonder why??) with my surgeon who told me it was normal (normal to want to kill your whole family??) and that it would be hormonal fluctuations and could last for 6 months. Now on a good day I really love my family, and dont want them really dead...Some days its a possibility!!

I finally went on Effexor and the last PMS cycle, two weekends ago, I was a bit weepy but better than I was even pre surgery. So yes, PMS is possible, and if you find it really bad, go in and speak to your Gyn...there is hope!! Anyone around you will most likely be quite happy to tell you how bad you really are!!

Hugs
Kat
