When will the insomnia end?

Hi ladies:
six months after my surgery and I still have horrible insomnia! I am on elavil (antidepressent) and it worked for one week then boom! it stopped. I occasionally try Valerian Root. When does it get better? I have also tried prometrium and that really does not appear to do anything. Sometimes I am up all night and in the day I want to sleep. Please help with any suggestions or let me know when your sleep returned for you. Thanks LUcy

When will the insomnia end?

Hi lucyball;
I'm sorry you are having problems sleeping. I take elavil for a different reason, I have a neuropathy. My sleep pattern is off because of my pain. Elavil is used for many things.
What dosage do you take? This drug can safely be upped, it is not a narcotic so, if it isn't helping you anymore you need to call your doctor and get your dosage changed.
I take 100 MG right now. I started on it about 6 years ago with 10 MG. I believe the maximum dosage is 125 MG.
(At least for my problems).
When I get my dosage upped it seems to work for about a month then stops working. I also take neurontin along with the elavil.
You need to be very careful adding things to your medications such as hebal remedies, some can conflict with medications. Be sure to let your doctor know of any herbs you may be using.
I hope you can get some sleep soon!

When will the insomnia end?

HI Lucy

I'm sorry to hear you are still struggling with insomnia I know this is a troubled area for alot of women after a hysterectomy.

I did have problems with it for awhile, but the progesterone cream has helped me with that troublesome problem.

Here is an interesting thread to helping with sleep by drinking ovaltine. Ovaltine
When I was having a hard time with my sleeping, I use to drink a glass of warm ovaltine before bed and it did help. There are some good recommendations at the bottom of the thread that may also help get you ready for sleep.

I know limiting my caffeine was a big help. I hope some of these suggestions may help you.
