Sharp pain

I had TAH 12-2-2004, kept ovaries.
Since yesterday I have had a sharp stabbing pain on my lower left of the abdomen. Not aware of pulling anything, but it is quite painful - more than the rest of my abdomen.
Any ideas why it should suddenly be painful?

Maybe you're ovulating? I had this too a couple weeks after surgery and it really hurt on the right for about a day...then I realized I was "mid-cycle" and asked my dr. iff this could be ovulatory pain. He thought it probably was and said it should get better as I healed, at first it can really hurt as everything is still so swollen and inflamed from surgery. Happy to report this month it hasn't bothered me. Good news is you ovaries are working

Sharp pain

Kate,
I have experienced the same pain. Only mine is on the right side. It feels as if I ran for 20 miles (out of shape). Sometimes it makes me double over and the only way it stops is to lie down. My doctor told me it may have been where they placed the retractor during surgery....or an "anchor stitch". Hope this helps.

Sharp pain

I think I had the same feelings on my right side of my abdomen. Right a the end
of the incision, I feel the odd stab once and a while. I found it got worse when I was up and doing stuff for too long. It was slightly relieved when I would hoist my belly up and support it with my hand. HOIST seems like such a harsh word, doesn't it!

The ovulation thing might be true too! I hadn't thought of that!

You've got to love the women in these forums! They are so knowledgeable and really have hearts of gold!

If you continue to have these pains and/or they get worse, I would ask your doctor about it! Just to be safe and for some peace of mind! :

Best of luck,

Sarah

Sharp pain

for two days I have had the same pain in my left side...I just figured I was ovulating...it doesn't last too long. Now if I can just explain the horrible headaches..they are probably "that time of the month headaches"

Sharp pain

Thanks girls,
I did wonder whether it could be ovulation pain, although if so it is a few days early!! It doesn't normally hurt this much, but then it hasn't normally been messed about with!! Hopefully it will be gone tomorrow, then I'll know it was ovulation pain.
Christee, the pain is near the end of the incision, but hasn't hurt up until now!!

Sharp pain

I have the same left sided pain just above my incision. Any more ideas about what this could be? It hurts if I sit up and if I bend over even the slightest bend. I kept one ovary and the uterus and left ovary was removed. Could it still be ovulation pain?

Sharp pain

Hi,

It's pretty common a few weeks after surgery for ladies to start having a sharp pain in one side or the other. This seems to be caused by the nerves in that area regenerating.

I remember after my surgery, I was miserable at about 4 1/2 weeks post-op for several days with right-sided, shooting pain I called zingers. A heating pad and ibuprofen helped a lot.

However, if the pain doesn't ease soon, it wouldn't hurt to give your doctor a call, just to be on the safe side. Any new pain or unusual symptom should always be checked out by a physician.

s,

Lisa

It could be ovulation, but if the pain keeps getting worse or isn't better the next day, I would suggest on giving your doc a call. Better to be safe than sorry. I hope you feel better soon.

Sharp pain

I had pains like this as well, about an inch above my incision and between the hip bone and the belly button. It turns out it could be a bowel pain, somehow when the stool hits there, it stops and causes me grief. New roadmap for the intestines and it could be a glitch in how the intestine is laying...It is a possibility. It was also suggested to me it might be a seroma, or blood clot in there, or a slight hernia from the end of an internal cut, and they could not stitch up the very end. Not big enough of a hernia to feel, but one that may pinch something. As you can tell, they just are not sure what mine is!! If it sticks around or gets really bothersome, I will get it checked. I find if I have a BM every day, it does not hurt. When I dont go for a day, it hurts. Common sense tells me it is a bowel issue.....

Hugs
