When I get up and move around now I have brown discharge. Is this normal at 5 1/2 weeks? Just curious.

Brown Discharge

I'm at/about 5 1/2 wks and quit with any type of discharge about a wk before Thanskgiving ( sugery on 11/8). It may be some left over stitches doing their " thing" and getting gone. Brown blood/stain usually means old blood.

I agree, I've always been told that brown means old...how old, I don't know.
My doctor told me to expect the discharge right up until week 6. She will then do a pelvic exam to make sure the cuff is healed properly. If not, a pinkish discharge would be happening and the granulation area of the cuff would have to be treated in her office.
I bet you just have some "old" stuff hangin around.
Best wishes,
Maralyn

I don't mean to scare you, but at 5 weeks I presented with a rectal/vaginal fistula, and that's when I started having the brown discharge. Are you passing gas through your vagina, or rectum? I hope in your case it's just some lingering stitches disolving, but if I were you, I'd give your doc a call just to be sure.

Had the same thing at 6 weeks. Doc said the stitches were still visible and that is what was causing the spotting. It continued until yesterday - almost 8 weeks!

Brown Discharge

Hi,

At around 5 to 6 weeks, as the internal sutures start to dissolve, you may notice some discharge of old blood or minor spotting. It's normal and nothing to be alarmed about.

However, if the spotting becomes heavy and bright red, like a period you should give your doctor a call.

s,

Lisa
