Is HRT wonderful for some?

I am almost 5 weeks post op from TAH/BSO. The past week or so I've been experiencing AWFUL hot flashes. I am almost stopped dead in my tracks when they occur. I feel like my body temperature goes up about 30 degrees and it seems like I'm breathless. This lasts about 5 minutes and afterwards I'm sweating profusely.

Anyway, I'm planning on starting HRT the 1st of Feb. The doctor won't put me on anything until then because I had a good deal of endometriosis and he wants it to die off.

Please tell me there are some out there who feel simply wonderful from the HRT!

Sorry you are having so much trouble with hot flashes and sweats. Yes, there are many who do well on hrt once you find the one that works well for you. Sometimes it takes some time to find the right one and dosage.

When I took hrt it stopped my hot flashes and sweats. If you want to find out more about hrt, you might want to ask the ladies in the Hormone Jungle, that is the forum for women who take hrt.

I hope you can find relief for your hot flashes by carrying ice water with you, dressing very lightly, have a small fan in bedroom at night, cut back sugar, caffiene, and spicey foods( they seem to cause problems). I also found that when a hot flash starts if I do slow deep breathing it helps take the edge off and gets me though it a lot better.

Sending s your way

Many women do quite well with HRT, although it can take a bit of time to get the dosing exactly right. The general advice these days is to start with a low dose and move up if needed.

I hope you feel better. Your doc can prescribe anti-depressants to relieve the hot flashes in the meanwhile - in low doses they work quite well
