Strange thick bump?

Hi Ladies,

Thursday will be my third week post op and everything is going well. Spotting is slowing down, gas is not as bad; raisin bran is my answer for bowel troubles. I'm still on pain meds, Ultracet and taking iron tabs for anemia. my incision looked great according to my Doctor at my two week appointment and the bruising is better every day.

Just above my incison on my belly and towards the right side I feel a thick spot like a bump or a knot that has formed. Is this normal at this stage and will it go away? What is causing this? I see my regular medical Doctor on Thursday and will ask him to look at it while I am there, but any ideas about this would be appreciated.

Strange thick bump?

Hi leeter, this may be a hemetoma. It sounds very similar to what I developed. It is a collection of blood at the surgical site. My doctor said it is from the internal oozing or seeping of blood that your body normally absorbs and for whatever reason your body did not absorb it as fast as it oozed, thus the hard spot. My doctor actually did an altra sound on mine because he said it was very large ( the whole length of my incision, about 9" long and about 2" thick). The altra sound confirmed that it was a hemetoma and my doctor said that my body should absorb it and it should be gone about 12 weeks. I'm glad you are going to see your doctor on Thursday and he will check it out and you will know for sure. Good luck with this and remember to take good care of yourself and rest, walk, and drink lots of water.
Hugs,
Ellie M.
