estrogen therapy patch

Has anyone tried the hormone patch? I have worn one for the past 2 weeks, and I have experienced a headache almost the entire time. I tried the cream (yuck), and also tried the gel (somewhat yuck), but the patch hasn't seemed to have any other adverse effects. Could it be stress? Sure, but I think it may be the patch. Happy Holidays to all!

I am on the patch, climara .05. You might just need to change the kind of patch, definitely something to talk with doc about. I have some headaches too, not often, thank god!! I love the patch, mostly I am pretty even, mood wise, although, I have "moments", which is kind of funny, when I do, my DH goes into the cabinet and checks my prescription for the patch, without saying anything, however, in a way so I can see him, you would have to be here, it is hilarious. He is a dream come true. It could also be just your body adjusting to hormones not created by your own body. Hang in there, and try an ice pack on the back of your neck, it works for me...
Merry Christmas

Hi Janis!

Which patch are you using and what is the dose? Where are you wearing the patch--abdomen or on your rear end? You'll get better absorption if it's on your rear so you might consider moving it if you don't already have it there. I get headaches when my estrogen level gets too low, like when I forget to use it. (I have a cream I use twice a day.)

For someone not so far post-op you've made quite a few changes already. There are bound to be hormone fluctuations during the initial healing phase as your body uses up hormones your ovaries made and you recover from surgery and the stress of that.

It's a good idea to keep a journal of any symptoms you are having. Share that with your doctor on followup appointments or when you call to discuss your hormone replacement. It's not unusual to need some changes along the way but making too many too soon can be disruptive. Patience is important though not always easy to have.
