My belly button is leaking yikes!

For those who had a Laprscopy Hysterectomy did your belly button started leaking? I just woke up and noticed that my belly button has some fluid in it. I'm on the phone with the advice nurse now trying to find out what in the world is going on *sigh*

Ok the nurse said it was a normal healing process. Well for one it's not infected at all, no fever, no chills, no icky yellow or green stuff, no redness and no pain in that area. So she told me to take a shower and that the soap and water will make it get better but for me to pat dry myself as best as I can do in my tummy area. She wanted me to also watch the area for signs of infection.

Has anyone else gne through this process too?

My belly button is leaking yikes!

Hi Carol,
No I did not have it with this surgery but sort of had it with my gall bladder surgery. I would get these ucky crusties falling out of my belly button. It was really not pretty!! It is the white blood cells oozing out probably. You know how if you scrape yourself, it oozes that clearish yuck? I am gonna guess it is the same idea. Hugs to you

My belly button is leaking yikes!

Huh, that 's funny cause I had it too with my gallbladder surgery and then my hysteroscopy last Sept.
Don't worry about it, just as long as it is not green, have a foul odor and you don't have a fever, you should be fine, it is just some extra fluid trying to get out of a microscopic pin hole in the incision. If it didn't all come out you could develop a seroma which would then have to be drained...I have had that done too...somtimes I wonder If there is anything that my body hasn't gone through!

Bleeding from the navel is normal. Not a lot of blood of course. Just watch it. After a bit it will heal just like everything else. If it continues, mention it to your doctor when you see him/her.

My belly button is leaking yikes!

Carol,

*Clear* liquid from a laparascopic incision is normal and is part of the healing process. It is "serous" fluid and is part of the inflammatory process that the body goes through as it heals. The navel is a particularly common area as it heals slowly due to it's depth and darkness. Like Kat, I too had the same issue after my laparascopic gallbladder surgery.

As others have mentioned, if the liquid changes from clear to opaque, (white/yellow/green), or develops an odor, along with a fever of 100 degrees or more, please call your as this may be an early sign of infection.

Happy healing

My belly button is leaking yikes!

I started w/ a lavh and went to a tah so I did have the incision in the navel. It was covered w/ a cotton ball and this clear plastic sticky tape so I don't know if it leaked. i had endometriosis in there so I would assume that it did leak a little. The dr took the cotton ball off at two wks and the only thing I notice now is that there is the end of a stitch sticking out. I don't want to pull it and was told that they self dissolve so I am not too worried. My son had mouth surgery and one of his self dissolving stitches was hanging down. The dr said that sometimes instead of totally dissolving they will come out like that and it was ok to cut it. I accidentally pulled it instead. It came out but my son had some pain for a little while. I don't plan to do the same to my own stitch. I am more of a baby with my own body than my sons'.

Hope everyone had a good day today.

My belly button is leaking yikes!

There's this disinfecting liquid soap that's made of the same bright orange stuff they cover you in during surgery : called Betadine over here, and it's pretty good for keeping all those delicate parts infection free.
Though it's deep orange it doesn't stain like the actual disinfectant, maybe it's available in pharmacies over there ?

kind regards
