Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

I would call your doctor, but I got a little prickly heat in that area during the first few days after my surgery. I think it was a combination of the low grade temp I was running and maybe the pain meds.
Whatever, it's gone now.

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

Mine is bikini cut, 5" long. Between my tan (fake bake) and my puffy belly (I'm somewhat overweight), I have to really look carefully to even see it.

I wouldn't think you'd have to give any details about it unless you want to. I wish I could have had a tummy tuck with mine! I just know I could keep it off, but I'm having a hard time getting up the motivation to take it off. Of course, the holidays are a typical excuse. Let's see if I do better come January!

GOOD LUCK!

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

Hi Shelby,
Most folks where I work knew what type of surgery I had; however, I'm a teacher and NONE of my students knew! I liked it that way.
Mine was also an abdominal along the same scar as my 2 c-sections. It's almost a foot long, wish I could have afforded the TT!
Good luck to you.

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

Hello Everybody!
I love this site!
My incision is a horizontal bikini cut about 7 inches long. I had a large uterine fibroid on the right side. At home healing nicely! I am so glad I discovered this site. It has been therapeutic to sit here on the couch and read all the posts.

Do whatever you like, of course, but my suggestion would be to just keep the details private. No one at work needs to know anything about your incision.
Just my humble opinion...

I totally agree, It is none of their business. It's your body. Good luck

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

Mine is6 inches long, vertical on the bikini line. I had 13 staples and now I can barely see the incision. I've been usuing a cream called Mederma. It's for surgical scars and it really works!!

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

I have a vertical incision running from just beside my belly button down into the pubic area, havent measured but it looks long!!! They said that because of the cancer I couldnt have a bikini cut due to the need to have an extensive look/feel around and had to be washed with some dyed liquid they sent of for testing, I had to have fatty tissue from around the bowel and lymph nodes taken also.

I had a belly to start with and with swelly belly , well NOT pretty. I had dissolvable stitches and once the tape came off I never even noticed any...the scar is quite thin, like someone else said about the thickness of a fine marker. My friend who is a theatre nurse thinks its the neatest incision she has ever seen.

Question For Anyone Who Had Abdominal Hysterectomy

I think your co workers will know you've had a TT if you show your figure right away. Most of us have our incision and a swelly belly and a pouch that can last for a time.

If you don't want to share....then wear your winter sweaters loosely for awhile.

telling or not telling

I had the full abdominoplasty too, with the hip to hip incision, the drains, the whole thing. People didn't exactly know, but they kept telling me how wonderful, healthy, and different I looked. They couldn't quite put their finger on it. But I had also lost 55 pounds in the year prior to the hysterectomy, so I just told them I had lost a lot of weight before the surgery. Then I told them that my uterus was full of fibroids and prolapsed and once they took that out it looked a lot better.

That seemed to satisfy the nosiest.
Of course, my immediate family and friends know everything, and then I ended up telling some others that kept commenting on it all. I really didn't care after awhile who knew-I thought it was a good education for some about the possibilities. My sister in law said she wished she would have been told it was a possibility before her surgery-she would have taken out a loan.

I didn't have any swelly belly, except once in awhile my whole abdomen would get hard and come to a point in the middle of the vertical and horizontal incisions, kind of like a little football.

Here's to happy healing no matter what kind of incision, surgery or scar you have
