This is actually quite common at this stage in your recovery, and while it's no fun at all, I know, it will get better. I had no correct sensation of my bladder for over a month post op, then after all the swelling went down, it got better. The swelling from your surgery puts pressure on the nerve pathways to your bladder, so right now it's a very confused muscle. Once the nerves are freed up, you'll notice a vast improvement. This is one of the most common problems after a hyst. If you are not passing urine or you are in pain from an overdistended bladder(and you would know because you would be miserable from retention)then go to the ER. But, if you are able to pass urine at regular intervals and there are no signs of infection, I would not worry at this point. Your best bet would be to drink plenty of fluids spread out thoughout the day and empty your bladder every 2 hours, even if you have no urge whatsoever to do so. This will keep you from letting your bladder get too full!

Rule of thumb is no lifting anything for 6 to 8 weeks. I'm not talking about lifting your coffee cup. No children, heavy items, ect., anything that would require you to use your abdominal muscles to help you lift it. Sex is a definite NO NO until you have had your post-op internal check up. You want to be totally healed inside before resuming sex, otherwise it will not only be paiful, but could cause the stitches to loosen which will cause bleeding and could lead to a nasty infection. It will be well worth the wait! Some of the sisters here made the mistake of having sex before they were cleared and they paid dearly for it. Your dr HAS to look inside to make the decision that you are healed in there. It's generally around 6 to 8 weeks. I waited 10 just to be sure, and I had no problems at all.

Oop, no more lifting him. I know it's hard, but you don't want to end up with adhesions later on. They can cause organs to stick to other organs and can be very painful. Also, even though you had an LSH, you still have many stitches inside you and a vaginal cuff that must heal, so please listen to your drs advice on lifting and sex!
