when to start using patch?? i am in post op

I wasn't given anything at the hospital, buy my doctor said to call her if I had a hot flash, night sweat, or any other menopausal symptom and she'd prescribe a patch for me over the phone.

I'm 4 weeks post op tomorrow, and I haven't had a single symptom. I was not even peri- menopausal before surgery, even though I'm 50. Doc says I may be one of the lucky ones (the women on my mom's side of the family have mild-to-no symptoms when they went into menopause). I really didn't want to go on ERT because of a history of breast cancer on both sides of my family, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this continues.

Of course, if you're younger and without a personal history of cancer or famly history of breast cancer, you'll want to use your patch for the multitude of benefits of the estrogen. If I were you, though, I'd call my doctor for more detailed instructions for my own peace of mind.
