I had surgery back in May 2004. The surgeon at my pleading tried to do it vaginally, but had to go abdominally because of the size of the fibroid tumor. Ever since then I have had an itch on the right side near my thigh. At first I couldn't bend over to see what was going on so I just smothered the area in one ointment or another (moisturizing, antibacterial, yeast treatment, fungal treatment, drying powders-tried one thing at a time, but nothing helped), but now that my mobility is back I noticed swelling on both sides with the itchy side being predominently swollen. When I lie down the swelling goes away, so I am thinking the attempted v surgery weakened the walls and I now have hernias. I have no pain, but things sure are ugly and uncomfortable. I think the itch is a result of the skin being irratated whenever I move. Can the surgery weaken the walls and cause hernias? Has anyone else had this problem? The last thing I want is more surgery, but I can't stand the discomfort. Wish I had sided with my surgeon from the start and just gone straight to abdominal surgery. This wouldn't have happened.

Dear (((( Ashuelot)))) I'm so sorry you're having this problem this long after your surgery I've never delt with a similar problem, so can't shed any as to whether or not you're dealing with a hernia. However, I do know that there are others who've had problems with hernias and, hopefully, they'll be around soon to share their experience.

Until then, you might want to do a Search on hernia. You might turn up a thread that may help you.

You might also want to do a search on hernia in our https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/link.php]Resources Library[/url] where lots of valuable links are stored.

Sending lots and lots of s your way. Please be sure to keep us posted.

Yes the surgery can cause hernias especially near the incision. You need to go to the doc and get them checked out. Some don't require surgery to repair especially if they are not bothering you or causing discomfort or pain, but only your doc can diagnose that and let you know what you need to do. Please let us know what the doc said.
