quit taking sleeping pill and cant sleep

I take a 3 mg Melatonin at night and sleep like a baby. I buy mine at GNC 120 tablets for $6.99. Sure a lot cheaper then Ambien and I think it works just as well.

thanks for all the good ideas. Last night I drank ovaltine, took a tylenol PM and slept better than the night before. I dont want to take ambien anymore and I did call my friend who says my body was probably getting dependent on the ambien and just needs to learn to deal without it. I am going to keep trying the natural suggestions (ovaltine, camomile, melatonin and maybe look at the calms forte. I dont really want to get dependent on the tylenol pm so it will be if all else fails. I guess I need to just be patient with my body. It has only been a week on the hrt. Debbie

I'd like to know more about the Melatonin. How does that work? Do you feel sleepy or does it just knock you out when you try to fall asleep?

quit taking sleeping pill and cant sleep

It relaxes me first and then after about 20 minutes I feel a little drowsey and am able to go to bed and sleep. My husband has started taking it also. The only strange thing (and it may just be me) is I seem to dream vividly. I wake up in the morning and I'm not in the least bit groggy. Hope this helps.

quit taking sleeping pill and cant sleep

Hi, Debbie and all.

I am seven weeks post-op (SAH-BSO) and am not a candidate for HRT due to severe endo, so I have been having trouble with sleep and night sweats, too.

Originally, I was waking up almost every hour all night long which was unbearable. Then, I started taking 10mg of Ambien at night, and thankfully, that made a huge difference. I was still waking up but only once or twice a night and I could fall back asleep right away which was wonderful.

Now, although my doctor says not to worry about taking Ambien since, according to her, it is one of the least addicting medications out there, I am trying to cut back, but when I tried stopping the Ambien completely, it was horrible and I wound up back at square one. Now, I am taking 1/2 a pill of Ambien (= 5mg) plus Calms Forte (which alone was not effective for me, but which helps in combination with the half dose of Ambien), and that seems fine for the moment. In a little while, I will see how I do without any Ambien again, but I really am not too concerned one way or the other. There is enough to deal with during this post-op period, so as they say "whatever gets you through the night" is okay with me.... within reason, of course.

Anyway, good luck with your estrace, and I hope you find a comfortable solution soon. All of this is so complicated, isn't it?

Take care, and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2005 to us all!

s,
Carrie

sleeping suggestion

I have used some herbals which work well. Calm and Sleep by Platinum has worked best for me . It's a blend of valerian, hops, and griffonia simplicifolia .it smells awful but allows you to relax and fall asleep. The first 2 nights it didn't do much but stick with it, it helped me stop sleeping pills.
Also Herbal Sleep Well by Swiss worked for me.

Hope you get some rest.

quit taking sleeping pill and cant sleep

Because I'm still off work, I have not addressed my sleeplessness at all. I have sleeping pills but I am way too scared to take them But I want to start entertaining the idea of sleeping. I mean, I just get up and watch some groovy late night television and marathon that activity until my eyes are so dry I must sleep. I love this site for the info. Thanks for the suggestions on natural sleep formulas. I'll look them up!
