Cold hands and feet! I'm freezing

When I first got home from the hospital, it was extremely cold. The second day I was home, I went out on the porch to bring in the mail. I was out there less than 5 minutes, but I shivered for two hours when I came in. I found that this problem continued for the first three or so weeks, gradually improving. I don't have the problem anymore, 6 weeks later.

Cold hands and feet! I'm freezing

Well my very thorough surgeon is trying to identify the causes of me being cold all the time. He worried when I told him Monday, which was 16 days post-op, that I was still cold much of the time. I mean, we're talking 2 sweatshirts, a thick terry robe, in a 78 degree room AND I'm standing in front of the fireplace, AND I'm still cold!

So he thought maybe I had an abcess from the surgery, since the tube he took out was horribly infected. So he sent me to the ER Monday evening for a CAT scan and a thyroid test.

Fortunately, or unfortunately I guess, both tests came back fine. No abcess and thyroid is normal. After my 6 hours in the ER with people hacking and vomiting - I told him that I wished that I had an abcess so that I could have been treated and be done with it! But noooooo, it has to be this big game of trying to figure out what it is. Hormones: sort of normal; thyroid: normal; CAT scan: clear.

So now I have an appt with an internal medicine specialist next week. And speaking of "internal medicine", if it's not dermatology, isn't all medicine "internal"?

Me too!!

I was coming over to the computer with a cup of tea in hand and just out of the shower for the 2nd time today to write a post to see if anyone is having the same thing! I go to the Dr Monday and I will ask him, I am on Premarin ( believe me we are going to be having a discusssion about changing)0.625. I only started 2 days ago on the Premarin because I was having no symptoms. Anyone find they are allergic to it or being on it has made them allergic to other things? I haven't changed my eating..well less of it. I haven't changed my medicines either except to add Premarin. I am off the Percocet and take only Motrin now. I feel like the only source could be Premarin..I have hives and they itch, I'm cold and oh well it could be worse..sorry to complain!

Cold hands and feet! I'm freezing

Angie,

My thyroid test was normal too. My doctor said that my body is putting all of its energy into healing and that I am recovering pretty well.

I have two thermometers now. Around 10 this morning my temperature was 95.6.

Let us know if you find out anything else.

Cold hands and feet! I'm freezing

well girls I just got home from my 2 week post op appt. I asked my doctor about the cold and hot thing. As I mentioned I am a person that literally is never cold always hot, even in the winter I open windows. But since the surgery its been the opposite. Well my doctor told me because I had the ovaries taken out that my body needs time to adjust to the changes and in a few weeks everything should level off. I guess I will have to wait and see. I let you all know. Grace

freezing then hot

My oh so wize urogynocologist has assured me that my freqyent swings of body temperature are related to my ovary removal and the fact that the poor remaining one is so overwhelmed it is beside itself. We are waiting until the 6 week exam to start any replacement therapy and things are getting better all the time but it is so annoying to be having a hotflash and have you feet freezing! I have been doing the layer thing and find fleece really nice.

Cold hands and feet! I'm freezing

Does anyone know how long the cold chills actually lasts? I'm usually warm most of the time so this cold thing is getting old!! I'm 6 weeks and 3 days post op and have been cold for the past 4 weeks and temp is still around 97.4......saw Dr on Tuesday and he ran a test for thyroid....still waiting for that test to come back. I layer my clothes usually a t-shirt with two sweat shirts......have mulitple layers of blankets.............AND I"M STILL COLD!!

If anyone could tell me a magic number of months that the cold will go away.................I would have something to look forward to!! haha

Thanks for listening again....had to vent again.....was hoping I'd feel warmer....haha

so now what to do?

Hey Sistas!

So now I'm not sure what to do...it seems like we're all freezing and with apparently no end in sight. (see Sherry1269 and cuddlyrock's posts)

Do U all think it's worth a trip to the internal medicine specialist. It's only going to cost me $20 and maybe he'll tell me something that will help us all.

Or maybe he'll tell me that my body is permanently changed, and perhaps I should buy more sweaters. I have talked to so many women with whom I work who are constantly complaining of being cold. Most of them have all of their "parts", but most of them are a far sight thinner than I!

what to do? what to do?
