Home from the Castle

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to check in and let everyone know that I am home. I ended up having an abdominal hyst, my uterus was shaped like a basketball and as hard as a rock. My left ovary was full of cysts, so the Dr. took that also.

I needed three units of blood, my hemoglobin was only 6.5 when I was admitted, now it is 9.5 which is still low - but much better than what I've been dealing with.

I am actually feeling pretty good, the pain is manageable, walking upright is a little difficult. I also have not had a BM - and am kind of worried about that as I also had a rectocele (sp?).

Hi Gail
I am glad to hear all went well. You will feel so much better before long. I had a TAH in May due to adenomyosis which led to severe anemia. My count was 5.5 before my transfusion 1 week before surgery.
Please take it easy and rest alot. Keep making that attempt to move your bowels. Use plenty of fiber and stool softeners. I am having a rectocele and enterocele repair done in Jan. My dr. said I will need to use stole softeners and laxatives for some time after surgery. Be glad they fixed yours while in for the hyst. I wasn't diagnosed with this until a short time ago.

looking forward to seeing you on the boards

home Gail,

We are glad to hear you are home and starting with your recovery. It must have been kind of a shock to wake up and find it was more than you had anticipated. It sounds like you are having a good, positive attitude and getting along well.
I had the anemia too and it helps to drink lots of water to rebuild your blood supply. The water is also good for all the other healing going on right now.
I agree the stool softeners are important, but they don't work alone. Watch your diet and if you need it you can use something like Milk of Magnesia. That is what I resorted to on the 5th day. It worked well to get me started and then my system did the job on its own. If you have much of a problem it would be good to check with your dr and see what he/she would want you to do.
Take little walks through out the day. They also help to get the bodily functions back to normal.
I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly. Rest and make sure you pamper the

s, Rita
