Climara Pro

I had an abdominal hysterectomy and BSO 12/21/04. (I am 45 and was still ovulating prior to surgery.) The next day my Dr had me apply the Climara Pro patch. He said that he wanted me on the estrogen/progestin combination to prevent the
re-occurrence of endo (which was apparently extensive)

But the product info says: "Climara Pro contains a progestin to decrease the chances of getting cancer of the uterus. If you do not have a uterus, you do not need a progestin and you should not use Climara Pro."

I am confused. Can anyone enlighten me?

Hi! to the Hormone Jungle!

I've split your reply off from the other thread so your question doesn't get missed.

It's not unusual for doctors to prescribe a combination product when endo has been diagnosed for the very reason your doctor told you. Some of us who haven't had endo also use progestrone or a progestin as part of our hormone replacement. There are other progesterone receptors in our bodies. The uterus was the main one so many doctors say "no uterus, no progesterone".

You can read more in our Resources Database if you click the link under the Hyster Sisters logo, top/left side of the page. You might also want to read some of the articles in the Hormone Article List.

I hope you have an uneventful recovery!
