How much activity is too much?

Okay, I think walking the dog at this stage in the game is probably a big no no...walking by yourself is okay, but at this point you should only be taking short walks basically around the house.
Working out is goign to be after you get cleared by the doc to do everything else and then he might say to wait a little longer before working out.
This is a huge major surgery and you need to take it slow otherwise you will be at home longer than you want to be.
There is a great tool that you can use onthe top of the page called checkpoints, it will tell you the do's and don'ts..remember it is a guideline. but as you can see 1-2 weeks postop, you should be doing nothing at all except walking around the house and maybe folding laundry a little.
If you are bored, try a hobby you always wanted to do, take time to start a journal, start reflecting on your life and rearrange your priorities, change things for the new you. There are plenty of things you can do so that you won't be bored, but so that you don't do too much and hurt yourself and believe me, it doesn't take much to hurt yourself.
Please ya'll check out CHECKPOINTS and slow down and take it easy, you only have this one chance to heal correctly.
Pixie---you are overdoing it, you are only 5 days out, stop, rest, drink water, take a short walk around theh ouse and rest again..thats it.
Ladies, think about it----there IS a reason that your doc gives you so much time off.
If you could go back to normal at 2 weeks, then you wouldn't need 6 weeks off.

How much activity is too much?

Leena,

I am one week today TAH. I too am going stir crazy at times. No pain meds or discharge. I am going to follow DRs orders if it kills me. My mother had this done 20 years ago and over did, she started having problems a few years later. DR told her she didn't let the insides heal. So she is on me to stay calm. Good luck with your recovery!!! Mine is smooth so far!!

How much activity is too much?

Thanks for all your advice Ladies. I am trying to be very careful and take frequent rest breaks. I haven't needed pain meds. If I feel tired I do take a nap or put my feet up and read. I have only taken short walks around the yard or down to visit the neighbor for a moment. So, I really am trying to be careful, but.......It is so hard! This sitting around stuff is harder for me than the actual surgery. My doc, who is also a good old friend, was afraid to release me from the hospital for fear I'd overdo it and actually kept me an extra day for "forced confinement" as he so kindly put it. He also put the fear of god in me before discharge LOL.
My DH is very supportive and kids have been great, but I feel like a big beached beluga lying around (and I have the swellybelly to match any beluga's). I also have this ridiculous fear that my gut is going to stay swollen forever.
Thanks for your support Sisters!
Leena
