HELP...gaining weight after hysterectomy

Hi Ladies,

I'm about 6 months out from having a TVH and I am gaining weight! I've never had a weight problem before and it is driving me crazy. I've put on about 10 pounds so far and I have very little energy. Does anyone have any suggestions. I've been trying to exercise. Just curious if there was anything we could do to boost our metabolism after a hysterectomy.

HELP...gaining weight after hysterectomy

I wish I had answers too! But, I know how you feel. I think it may be because of hormones.

I am about 2 months post op from a TAH/BOS and feel like a prize heifer!

I tried cutting back on treats and fatty foods. I hurt myself trying to exercise the other day. I was walking and thought well maybe I could jog. Wrong! I am so sore now.

I read there isn't really anything to get rid of swelly belly except time. Sorry all I kind offer is empathy! If you find anything let me know!

6 mos out - weight gain

Hello hystersisters!

I am 6 months post-op myself and am utterly disgusted with the weight gain. I, too, have never had a weight problem before my surgery. I have gained 12-14 pounds since my surgery - TAVH (no ovaries kept). It is like carrying around a spare tire in your mid section. I have read numerous articles that give my comfort knowing that it takes your body up to a year to adjust and heal. I have also read that if you over did things in the beginning that it takes longer for the swelly belly to go away. I am very thankful for a very supportive husband through this - he tells me that I look great despite how I feel about myself. God Bless all of us healing inside and out from our surgeries!

HELP...gaining weight after hysterectomy

Hi ladies,
I'm like Melray. 6 months post-op and I have the spare tire too. Since kids, I've always been around a size 8 (some fluctuations down to a 6--others up to a 10) but NOW.....I had to go out tonight and buy 12's so I have something to wear. And there isn't a whole lot of extra room. I'm only 5'2" so I told my husband I'm kind of like the little teapot (short and stout)!!! I hate this.

Overall, I've put on 12-15 lbs with 8-10 of those in the last 4-5 weeks. Now, I know we've just made it through the holidays but I can't say that I've eaten that much more than other times.

If any of you come up with a cure for this spare tire, please share!

HELP...gaining weight after hysterectomy

I am only 19 days out from surgery (LAVH-BSO), and I am really nervous about the weight thing. I have lost 10 to 12 pounds, but my body fat (I have a Tanita scale) has gone from 44% to 48%.

I have been walking a few times a week, plus my doctor released me to do weight lifting, as long as I isolate and do not use my abdominals. So, I have been lifting 8 pound dumbbells every other day since 12/31. (He said not to exceed 10 pounds.)

I am taking 1mg Estradiol, 75mg Effexxor, Olay essential soy for menopause, and a bunch of OTC supplements.

Since my mustache is not growing back, I am assuming that the problem is a lack of testosterone. My surgeon refuses to give me progesterone because I had endemetriosis on my ovary, and he is worried about microscopic bits of it being in my abdomen. (The adrenal gland can convert progesterone to testosterone, as needed.)

So what can I do? I am thinking of getting some DHEA, which the adrenal gland converts to estrogen and testosterone.

I would like to know what's happening with other women out there, and what their docs have to say about HRT and endemetriosis.

HELP...gaining weight after hysterectomy

Hey Ladies,

Since I last replied to this thread my weight has gone down a little. I don't think I am super overweight, but I have noticed to added weight bothered me. My parents comments on the way I looked didn't help either.

But, in the past couple of days I have been running around alot because I am back in school. Sometimes I literally do have to run.
I am trying really hard to avoid fatty foods and sweets. But, I am a little more sore because of the increased activity and carrying books that weigh like 20 pounds. I drive to a bus lot and take the bus to school because it is a long drive, especially in the winter. I was sprinting to catch the bus. LOL

Does anyone know if certain hormones cause weight gain?
