Halcion for sleep

Have any of ladies tried the prescription Halcion for sleeping? My gyn gave me a script for it yesterday but after looking it up on the net, the side effects and drug interactions sort of freaked me out. So I don't really know whether to fill it or not. Just wondering if anyone had any experience using it.
Thanks

Halcion for sleep

Hi,

I haven't taken it either. After my surgery, when I had insomnia for four weeks, I took Tylenol PM and it worked pretty well. Have you tried it yet? Other ladies have taken Ambian (which requires a prescription.) If you haven't tried either of those, you might want to give them a try before taking Halcion.

s,

Lisa

Are you taking any other narcotics or sedatives at this time? I looked it up in my trusty drug book and it is prescribed for that, it is more of a sedative where as Ambien is more of short term management drug and can cause morning drowsiness whereas Halcion does not. My DH actually took Halcion before a dental procedure and it worked quite well. How many milligrams did your doc prescribe for you?
If you are really concerned about it, then you need to call him and tell him that and see if he can offer you anything else for it. But it looks like it is prescribed for longer than short term insomnia unlike Ambien.

I take Prilosec for a hiatal hernia i have and I take my xanax for my anxiety and i have a script for tylenol 3 for when the bladder abdominal pain is too bad. It said I can't take any of this with the halcion. Maybe I should call the pharmacy.

yeah, according to my book you shouldn't take the xanax or Tylenol #3 with it, call the pharmacy and if they say the same thing, then call your doc. What they might get you to do is to make sure that you don't take anything else near the time you take the halcion. Let me know what the pharmacy says.

I think it would be a good idea to call the pharmacy, they can tell you about all your drug interactions, and they can also tell you a good deal about side effects.

Halcion for sleep

I just called the pharmacy and he said that all drugs have some side effects, like I don't know that. He said I should not take it with the Xanax since they are in the same class and I could take the Tylenol 3 but not near the time to take the Halcion. He didn't know about the Prilosec. For some reason the thought of taking this drug is making me nervous, I don't know why.

I had already tried the Ambien. I took it 2 days and it did nothing, the third night I slept like a log but was so nervous and jittery and shaky the next day so I decided not to take it anymore. My gyn said that I shouldn't have had those kinds of reactions.

What my gyn really wants and the reason he gave me the script for the Halcion is that he wants me to rest, not stress and stay off my feet until they get me the appt with the specialist at Magee Womens Hospital. I am a nervous wreck but who wouldn't be after 4 months of steady non stop pain, and my gyn knows it. They told me at the office yesterday that is would make me groggy, sleep, tired and confused.

I guess I will get it and try one pill, surely nothing bad will happen with one pill.

I think I have gotten more neurotic since this surgery and long painful adventure.

Please let me know how you feel with the halcion. How often is your xanax prescribed?

Well it is 0.5mg and it says take every 8 hours as needed. But really I only was taking maybe 1 or 2 a day and only when I would get really nervous. This last week, since the uro nightmare, i have been taking 1 tylenol 3, 1 xanax and 1 urisept at bedtime to try and get some sleep. I still am getting up about 2 times to pee though.
