Twice I had surgery

First, I had my rectocele repaired with my hyst, and I had 9 weeks off work (I have a desk job). But the repairs didn't hold (mesh fell) and last Oct I had the rectocele repaired again. I tried to go back to work at 6 weeks, but only lasted two days. Then I had another 4 weeks off. I gradually went back to work a couple of days before Christmas (everyone else was trying to get time off work at Christmas and here I was trying to go back to work). Anyways, it is a type of surgery that takes awhile to heal, and sometimes our bodies heal faster or slower than at other times. I found it difficult to sit for any length of time, until about 10 weeks post op. Anyways good luck with your surgery and I hope everything goes well.

A&P repairs w/o hysterectomoy...how long were you off work?

Hi Levanah,

I can't believe that you had to go through another rectocele repair. I'm 5 weeks post-op now. I went to my Dr. yesterday and he cauterised my wound again. (another app. next week)
He asked how I was doing BM wise and I had to admit to him that I sometimes 'still' have to use my hand to do so. He told me that my rectocele was very large and that I had lots of loose tissue. He has also repaired with mesh. I can't imagine going through this again. What were your symtoms that the mesh didn't hold? Did you still have to use your hand for your BM? I'll be going for another Defecography in the near future.

Take care!
Marie

A&P repairs w/o hysterectomoy...how long were you off work?

hi
My rectocele/enterocele repair is coming up soon. My dr. said he will be using a derm graft(pig material). I already have pain with sex, so he said derm graft is the best to avoid having more pain.I will learn more about it on the 19th at my pre op meeting.
I have done some research on the net and it says that derm grafts should keep prolapses from reappearing. I sure hope so!

Second time around

Well, by 8 week post op, the urogyn found a grade one rectocele when she did an internal exam. Then about 3 months later I was sitting up quickly in bed (late for work) when I felt this terrible ripping and pain. The rectocele was big then, and I could feel it with my fingers as it was bulging. It was during the second surgery when she found out the mesh didn't hold. She used mesh and a graft on both surgeries. Some women (me) just have thin tissues so they are prone to prolapses.

Constipation can make your rectocele worst. So take care during the healing process so you don't put too much strain on the incision.
