My dh & I went to a hotel for a romantic night at 5 1/2 weeks post op for me and I enjoyed a nice soak in the hot tub there. It was so wonderful, I missed baths so much : )

I want a BATH!!

Hummm... isn't this strange? I was released from the hospital 3 days post op. I was told at that time I was cleared for baths. Just to be careful getting in and out. I had a TAH and had no external staples or stitches. Wonder what makes one dr say one thing, and others allow something else. Strange.

I was in the tub 2 day after I got home and I loved every second of it. I am not usually a big bath person, but the soreness from the surgery and everything else really made me want a bath. Mind you, I was not in there forever, but it was very helpful.

Anyhow... that is what I was told. Good Luck, and totally enjoy it when you are cleared for a bath.

I want a BATH!!

Hi Ladies..my TAH surgery was 3.5 weeks ago. I asked about a bath...doc said if my incision seemed ok and not open-weeping-etc to go ahead but be careful getting in or out. I have had a nice long soak at least every other day since day 10...seems strange there are so many different opinions from doctors about that subject...All I can say is the baths help so much!

I want a BATH!!

My dr said to wait at least 4 weeks post-op and no bubbles or anything. I miss baths too and my mom won't let me take a shower alone (I can;t reach my back anyway).

I want a BATH!!

I had my TVH on December 8, 2004 and my doctor gave me the okay for baths after 4 weeks, which was yesterday. I was a little nervous even though I had to okay from my dr and I only stayed in the tub for 10 minutes. I'm due for my 6 weeks checkup in 2 more weeks and I feel more comfortable after my internal checkup just to make sure I'm healing okay.

I want a BATH!!

I had a TAH on 1/3- staples removed on on 1/5 and adhesive bandages placed on incision....the doc said I could take a bath after one week of placing the adhesive bandages on....I asked him why and he informed me that the bandages get more soaked taking a bath and the result could be that they fall off before the incision has healed. I can take showers now, but have to pat and then blow dry my bandages after getting them wet.

I want a BATH!!

I know exactly how you feel! I absolutely love my baths - one every day with a shower in the morning. I try to escape the little ones by pretending I am all alone, however, usually they come bounding in to sit on the toilet to read to me! I am seven weeks post TAH and had my first bath at ten days (the day the staples came out!). I did not use any bubbles or bath oils and it felt just great - helped with some of the itching from the staples. However, getting out of the tub was quite an accomplishment. I had to let all the water drain out, then I was freezing and slippery!! My DH tried very hard to not laugh as he helped me out but I am sure I was quite a sight! Of course, little ones looking on and gasping as they saw the incision didn't help a whole lot. I also found that putting the oil from vitamin E capsules directly onto the incision has healed it tremendously. The incision is very faint on the left side but more noticeable on the right where all the "work" as my MD calls it was done. I am now having bubbles and scented oils- it is great!! Maybe you can get some of those "no slip bath tub stickies" to put down for the past little bit?

Enjoy! jct

I want a BATH!!

I was told no baths, no swimming, no sex, & no riding my motorbike until after my 6 week checkup.....
The other ob/gyn I rang said baths & swimming were ok after 10 days (most external type incisions etc are healed within 10 days), sex "should" be out for 6 weeks but if my partner is REALLY careful & we don't overdo it a week early wouldn't hurt, & as for the motorbike, whenever I felt capable

I was "superglued" on the outside (abdomen), but when they changed the adhesive pad the evening of my surgery day, the nurse put it on crooked & got some of the sticky part over the incision.
When they changed it the next day, it pulled open the incision in that spot.....
I know it's not really funny, but I can see my internal stitches in that area because it hasn't healed properly (it's not weeping or anything, it's just healed "open")...
Take it easy getting in and out of the bath - make sure you have someone there to help you if you need it (if not necessarily in the room, at least where you can call out to them).
