Kept Ovaries but given HRT

I had a LAVH on 11/29 and was able to keep my ovaries. Went in for my 6 wk checkup and was cleared for everything. Will be returning to work on Monday part time for 2 wks per Dr. orders. I'm 49 and asked Dr. if there was anything he could do about the night sweats, some insomnia (not every night) and headaches that I get. He said that I will be going into menopause shortly due to my age and then gave me a 3 month supply of hormones that have estrogen/progestin. After reading up on this I saw statements that progestin should only be used by women with utereus' in tack. I notice that lots of women take HRT when their ovaries are removed but has anyone been taking HRT with ovaries and is it helping them. I'm a little nervous about taking them as my symptoms are generally tolerable. But if it can help them completely I might change my mind. Thanks in advance.

more information os out there

Hi there, and to the confusing world after surgery.

If you go to the Hormone Jungle on this site, you will find lots of knowledge. Also if you go to this link:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsl...s=&forumid=174

you will find tons of articles about HRT, with ovaries, etc. This is the Hormone Articles site. You can find it in the future by going to the More Hystersisters drop down menu bar on the top right of this page. Then find Hormone Articles and click on go. That will take you to the page.

I know I have read that some women need the HRT just for awhile after surgery until things get evened out. Also if you don't want to take things together, you can take them separately with bio-identical or compounded hormones. Lots of women at the Hormone Jungle are on various combinations of those.

I am still working through this and I am 6+months post op. but I had ovaries removed too, so am in surgical menopause. I was 54+ years old and had not gone into menopause, so your doc saying you are going into menopause because of your age may or may not be true. But as you will read, the medical community is beginning to see that ovaries play a part in women's lives even after menopause.

's to you!
