How long before the anemia goes away

Hi . I am also a big fan of Floradix(a liquid iron formula). I was "profoundly anemic" awaiting transfusion at one poin( a 7 reading). I took the Floradix and it took about 3 wks. for amazing results ..No side effects. It has other suff in it to ensure absorbtion. Now I put a few drops in juice. For people wanting fast results or who are having other problems with iron pills...this liquid iron is worth a try.

How long before the anemia goes away

I had reached "11" at my last check. My problem is, I have to work
very hard to keep it there. Caffeine DEFINITELY palys a big role. this may be only in anti-absorbtion cases tho, I am not sure. I only drink two or three diet cokes a week. Tea is absolutely the worst. At least here where you get very strong iced tea at the drive thrus & restaurants. It is a given that my iron will drop after having tea.

How long before the anemia goes away

I drink tons of tea. I make a strange brew before I excercise each day. It is primarily green tea, a spash of juice or lemon and several drops of Floradix. This seems to maintain my iron .I also add drops of Floradix to juice. When I was anemic I was adding full shots of the stuff according to how many ml. the Doctor said I needed.I had 2 Doctors at the time. Neither had seen someone respond to treatment as quickly as I did.

P.S. Maybe I should be on their payroll. It is a Canadian product. I could visit home office in the summer!

How long before the anemia goes away

Wow! Thanks for that fantastic website!!! It was very informative & made a lot of sense. I can pass it on to other members of my family that suffer from anemia. One has had a hysterectomy & the other is my son, both drink a lot of Bojangles iced tea, too.

How long before the anemia goes away

Just got my blood checked last week, and now I'm at 15.2 hgb !

(off the iron supp's, needless to say)
It's now about double what I had most of the time during the 3 years before my hyst.
What a difference!

Iron Dextran Injections

I recently found I was still anaemic six months after surgery. My GP suggested the usual iron tablets, but I don't get on with them or them with me - they turn my guts to concrete! So, I ASKED to have iron injections. The Doc was very surprised, but said there was no reason not to,just she had never been asked before. I found all the staff in the surgery wanted to know all about why I'd asked for the injections - it seemed obvious to me though. I always ask if I think there is an alternative that will be better for me and figure that although the Doc knows much more than I do medically, I also know myself. It never hurts to be self informed and be a partner in your own treatment. If the Doc thinks you are wrong, they quickly tell you so!

There were five injections of Iron Dextran, which I had weekly for five weeks: No side effects at all for me, I was lucky, though if you don't like needles it isn't for you...that baby was BIG!! I have a great GP, in a rural practice in Shropshire in the UK so things may be different elsewhere of course.

cheers,

Julie

How long before the anemia goes away

I made up my mind to break down and take the iron my DR gave me samples of. She gave me a month's work of a special kind that is "easy on GI system". Well in 16 days I have had one BM and that was with and generous dose of laxatives the night before. I drink tons of water, eat good stuff to keep me regular and still here I am. So much for THAT claim. I committed myself to a month. I will go back to the DR and have my iron rechecked. If I am not at an acceptable level then I will live like that. I FEEL fine. That's what matter sto me. Wish me luck and congrats joano! I'm so happy for you!

How long before the anemia goes away

I think anemia is now my biggest post op issue. At my check up my doctor said that after my blood transfustion my level woulld have only gone up to 8 IF my diet was rich in iron, well it hasnt been as I had no appetite for almost 9 weeks, well 10 but I am now forcing myself to eat, and have eaten steak twice this week!! Big deal for me who is practically vegetarian. I have been ensuring that I consume my iron with vitamin C. I too dont take suppliments as i end up curled up in bed with guts of concrete...worse than being tired.

The caffeine thing had been said to me before, so I have cut down on my coffee, but der didnt even think of my diet coke that I drink each day, time for that to go I think!!!!

I havent had my bloods checked yet, but am going to go to my local gp and have that done and enlist him in helping me get my bloods right as I cannot go on with this exhaustion any longer!!!

How long before the anemia goes away

I was critically anemic(5.5) when I walked into my dr's office in April. I had dizziness, a racing heart, swollen ankles. I looked like a ghost. I got a 3 unit blood transfusion 2 days later. My count went up to 8.6. My dr. said it was high enough so he could do the surgery. I was then placed on 3 chromagens a day. They are powerful iron pills. My surgery was 1 week later and my blood count was up to 9.7. I thought I felt wonderful!!!!After surgery it went down to 6. I was not transfused again because I had a terrible reaction from the pre op transfusion and ended up in the ER for 9 hours.I continued on my chromagens for several weeks and ate foods high in iron. I became terribly constipated for those first 5 weeks post op. I ended up getting a cat scan which showed I had a bowel impaction. Be very careful to not let this happen. I used fleet laxatives to empty out, then was sent to a gastrenterologist. The straining caused me to develop the rectocele and enterocele, which I just had repaired.
My blood count was up to 11.7 in June, 12.3 in September before my GB surgery.
I had blood drawn right before my surgery Tuesday. My count was up to 13.8. Probably the highest in my entire life. I feel like I could run a marathon, but won't. LOL
Just remember most of us took years to become so worn down, so it will take some time to reach that desired blood level. A little at a time!!
Good luck. you will get there!!
