Hi Tereasa,
I'm just about 8 months hear soon . Yes I felt more blown up in the eve's, But hey we had a big repair done to us in our belly's. And all of us are different. But yes we would like our belly's back to normal as possiable. But for myself it has took me 7 months to get back into my clothing . And to loose the weight that I gained.( 14 pounds durning the recovery time) Started loosing it slowly in the 5 th month . Just realy doing nothing to help it, BUt with all the med's and surgery bussiness we had. I'm sure it just took time for it to release it .. But yes it can be frustrating when you would like to get back to normal..........Hummmm I say.......... Time.
I didn't have a flat belly , but not a pregnant one either. But now I'm ready to try and get in a prograhm to get back into shape . Now that I'm starting to feel better. ( Except I deal with Fibromyalgia, So that interfears for me at times too....) But hey no more uglyness any more and that part is great So time.................. Your Friend LIL' LESE

When does abdominal "shelf" go away???

My Dr's nurse explained to me that, in the normal cycle of healing, the scar will be flat, the ropey, and will alternate this for awhile. This is the wa a scar is supposed to heal. If it stays ropey, there is a possibility of adhesions. If it stays flat....well, I don't remember what could result then, but it wasn't any better.

So long as it is alternately flat & ropey, all should be well with the scar.

My c-section scars did this for about a year or better.

When does abdominal "shelf" go away???

I'm at 12 weeks and the shelf is gone enough that I look flat enough. Naked there's still a little shelf on one side. Maybe a quarter inch. But with clothes on I see nothing.

At first with certain clothes it looked awful. Now I look great.

I didn't do anything special. I do get regular aerobic exercise though. I ride my bike to work and go hiking on the weekends.

When does abdominal "shelf" go away???

Hi Sisters:
I too have the dreaded "shelf" above my incision. I did however notice that it seems to be flattening somewhat in the last couple of days. I am just about 5 weeks post-op.
It does look better in the morning when getting up, and looking worse at bedtime. One thing I have been doing is taking a calcium supplement (caramel chewy) twice a day. Most diet experts will tell you that calcium supplements will excelerate any diet plan and will help to keep the fat out of the tummy. It's worth a try. Last year I was dieting and did this, along with a work-out program and it seemed to keep the belly fat down!
It may work for this shelf situation!~
