Sleeping on side

I am 3 weeks post-op and I have been sleeping on my side periodically from about week 2. I put a pillow between my legs - the right side is better for me - I have too prop up a lot on my left side. I try to move until I find a comfortable spot. Right is better for me most of the time. Whenever I feel uncomfortable its back on the BACK! I wouldn't dream of sleeping on my tummy ANY TIME SOON.
Good Luck

Sleeping on side

I was trying to sleep on my side from day one (according to my notes at the Hosp I was )

I bought a small support pillow/cusion and took that to the Hosp with me and put it under my belly so that I could sleep on my side, as I would never had any sleep at all.

I will say it is different for everyone and you will have to find your own level of comfort and may have to try several different ways to achieve comfort.

Sleeping on side

Hi there!! I have found that if you place a small pillow under your side and roll on to it, that it releives the pulling of your scar. It gives you some support and I have had no problems sleeping on my side since my TAH. I change sides often during the night because my hips get sour. I use a small pillow between my knees also. I have never been able to lay on my back. Hope this helps you. Good Luck and take care.

Sleeping on side

For anyone who wants to sleep on their sides (good idea, as per the adhesions mentioned earlier), get a "wedge"... a pillow or piece of foam that is thicker on one edge than the other.
When you roll onto your side, the narrow edge should fit under your stomach, & because it gets thicker it will stop your belly from "rolling" downwards

With my wedge pillow, I've been able to sleep on my side since the afternoon of my surgery (changing sides was a little difficult in the hospital, I'm used to a QS bed )
