No regrets at all...

It has literally given me back my life...I didn't realize how sick I was and how it impacted on every part of my life until I felt better.

Nothing I went through during the surgery, hospitalization, or recovery was as bad as what I went through before.

I feel like I have been given a gift...the gift of health and hope. Neither of which I had for a long time.

I have to say a lot of the time I do regret having my hysterectomy. I didn't think there was any other option and my doctor had started mentioning it right after I had my daughter in 1999. I DON'T miss the miserable periods or the endless pain, but I feel like I'm no better off now than I was prior to the surgery. If I could take it all back, I would because I sometimes think the pain and discomfort is worse now than it was then. But, I will admit it's definitely nice not having to worry about going anywhere and doing anything because I'm afraid I'll have an accident. I knew I would eventually have to have a hysterectomy because my mother had one when she was 21 years old due to what they told her was endometrial cancer. So, I guess it just runs in my family. This is just like a lot of things, you will have some days that are better than others. Today you might be unhappy about the surgery, but this time next week you may o.k. with it because you are able to get out and do something you wouldn't have normally been able to do without a back up plan. Don't know if this helps, but keep your head high and we'll help you as best we can!

Good Luck,

I definitely regret having the surgery right now. I am in so much more pain than before, although who knows, maybe the fibroids would have grown, but I was 52, and maybe menopause would have kicked in and they would no have grown, and maybe the intermittent pelvic pain and bladder problems I had would have gotten worse anyway. One thing, I never had problems with constipation and now worrying about elimination rules my life. I got my surgical records and the surgery was uneventful and routine. However, this recovery certainly is not! I'm almost 3 months out and I still haven't returned to work full time, can't imagine having sex, I don't feel like travelling, eating in a restaurant, going to a movie, all things I did in my life before. I just want things to go back to normal!!!! Sorry for the venting, but you asked!

Regret Having Hyster?

No regrets. No back pain. Nope, no regrets. When I awoke from surgery I felt as if this great weight had been lifted off my shoulders. My recovery has been pampered and good. I have had a very supportive family.
