Going Back to Work Anxiety

Hi,

I have an administrative type job and I was also worried about going back to work. I was cleared at 8 weeks but office was closed over the holidays, lucky me!! So I only went back last week, 10 weeks post-op.

Yes, the first 3 days were tiring... Sitting for long periods at the computer did cause some belly soreness, but getting up and walking around helped. Even had to partially unzip my pants the 1st afternoon because of swelly belly(wear long sweater...), and I also went to bed pretty early those nights (reminded me of earlier weeks...). What I found the hardest though was concentrating... and this is year end in accounting and payroll (my department)

Anyway this week has been much better so far. I have more energy, I feel less tired and my mind seems to be working properly again. Still have a bit of problem with short term memory but, hey this is what post-it notes are for right?

So good luck to you and try to take it easy. If possible, work half days or partial week for the first week that would surely help.

Going Back to Work Anxiety

I went back to work today (5 weeks post-op - TAH) - I too have an admin job.
I will be doing half days this week and next week and gradually increase hours as I feel stronger.
I have a 20 min drive to work which was ok but I couldn't take more than 4 hours in the office beacause I could feel the swelly belly coming and it was just a bit overwhelming with everybody wanting to talk me and find out how I was doing. It was great to be back though because I missed everyone! I am very tired right now I hope I get some sleep today.

You should talk to your boss and start with a few hours a day.

Going Back to Work Anxiety

I went to work for my first day, today 4 hours. I commute 1.5 hour round trip. I had to get up @ 5 am. I needed an extra few minutes to get rid of my brain fog. I was pretty spacey driving home. (treated a 4 way stop like I got a green light after the truck.) When I got home ate lunch watched t.v. for 2 hours and took a 2.5 hour nap. I am currently in my nap hangover. I hope I can sleep tonight.
My body seemed in slow motion at work. My legs felt heavy. I understand the term "out of body experience". Idid lose the brain fog and enjoyed working with the kids. Its kind of disapointing to feel this way but I am sure it will get better. My Doc will let me work 1/2 time for as long as I say. Today I felt like going to 1/2 time forever.

So...a week isn't enough, is it?

I have arranged to take a week off work, but I'm only having ovaries and appendix removed. Something tells me that I'm going to need more time off! Whaaaa!
